The Art Of The Remix

Yep, that last Balamii show is genius, totally engaging

The Mad Professor link made me think about another amazing remixer, Adrian Sherwood. One of my favourites…the original Air song is bonkers as it is, but the remix takes it to another level

Those great Mad Professor remixes made me revisit this classic by Lee Perry. Still goes!

A masterpiece of a remix.

Most of what Justin Strauss touches is made if not better, then definitely more interesting.

this is too big a topic.
i could not even begin to list my faves.
in fact, its probably easier to list the producers who have remixed my faves over the years :

tom moulton
adrian sherwood
freelance hellraiser
radio slave
the beatmasters.

etc etc.

as i said - too big a topic.

Talking Jungle is definitely up there

Totally agree on all three! Had some moments both on the dancefloor and in the booth to that vandervolgen remix.

And a recent one. I:Cube with a timeless spin on Tornado Wallace

I’ll go with some earlier examples from before remixing had become a thing. First one takes a quite boring 7 inch version and turns it in to perhaps the best disco record ever made. Complete with overdubs and a perfect build up with drama for dayz.

Second one is more or less the same formula but instead of drama it accents the funk in the tune, killer remix!

JR dubbed it, rubbed it and scrubbed it to the maximum on this shining example of how to conduct a remix

I have considered paying truly unholy sums to move up from my bootleg of this.

It was one of my white whales but after 15+ years on the wantlist i found a copy about 7 years ago, totally worth every penny!

Carl Craig has had so many that are stone cold classics

Or this one, goes on and on but you don’t want it to end. I’ll also mention the mega mix of I Feel Love but I know we all know it.

Michael the Lion did an edit of it for Razor n Tape which is good, and I also think it was officially repressed recently.
