Known Chuck for nearly 20 years, never knew he was besties with Tony. Great film, think 70’s California is my Spirit Era.

cory’s known as one of the nicest guys in the game. to make a tragic situation even more devastating for the skate community, preston maigetter (aka p-stone) was well known as thrasher’s in-house videographer and ALSO known as one of the nicest guys a person could find.
cory lived out on vashon island and word of the crash got around seattle pretty fast. the whole thing was heartbreaking. i’m certainly not livin’ sober over here, but incidents like that, even at my old age, make me question every shitty decision i ever made and clue me in about how to live safer in the future.
i’m glad he’s out, and i hope for the best for him. skating is fun as hell but lordamercy, all that youth, danger, drink and drug culture can be so scary.
One for the British skate Dads, Palace is releasing a M-Zone collection in honour of the iconic late-80s/early-90s Croydon based sk8 shop. Not only did they sponsor (King) Curtis McCann and Mike Manzoori but I’m pretty sure they were one of the first retailers of Stussy(?). I used to paw over their full page ads and product lists in R.A.D. Magazine, always wanted the monster hoodie which Palace have resurrected.
Really can’t fault their references, presentation and general swagger.
Curtis completely disappeared I’ve read on skate forums over the years people asking where and what is he doing but never much talk, friends say he’s doing good ect. One of skatings greatest mysteries…
I remember the Mzone shop near Carnaby Street late 80s door handle was a deck split in half…
I heard many moons ago from some fellow Croydon skaters that Curtis had his problems in life that maybe interfered with him continuing to skate in the way he did. He was the most stylish and progressive skater - a joy to watch. Still love his Skypager part…
Yeah that is what I heard too and its good that his friends or family never said more than that whatsoever his problems were These days a guy would make a TV show about it… Underworld Element that’s a blast from the past
Just found a whole load of old magazines from the 80s/90s in a cupboard at my mum’s house.
Amongst the Mixmags and Face magazines there’s a whole load of ABMX and RAD from 1984-1990.
I tore the earlier ones up to put posters on my bedroom wall but from 1987-1990 (issues 48-87) there’s an almost complete set of RAD magazine in amazing condition. The later ones look like they’ve never been read. Don’t even remember getting them by that point. I guess I was into other pursuits by then.
Good find the action bike to RAD ones are pretty rare, I have a stack in my folks house too. There’s a guy who will buy then or borrow them from you and on instagram he scans all the pictures and posts them… Here’s his collection and ones he’s missing
I got in touch with the current RAD magazine guys. Going to sell them a few for their archive. Will put the rest on eBay I think.
Let me know what you have remaining, I might be interested.
My Dad binned huge quantities of my 80s and 90s RAD, Skateboard, Phat, Thrasher, Transworld and Slap magazines without my knowledge. As if that wasn’t a crime in itself he disposed of stacks of Face and Jockey Slut. You can’t pick your parents.
When I was 16 I built a Mirror dinghy from a kit, was my pride and joy. Used to have it hoisted up in the garage. Went off to Art school came back at Christmas and my Mum had burnt it in a massive Viking style bonfire on Guy Fawkes night with all her mates. Almost as bad as when she gave away my very first pair of screw-in Puma football boots to he mates son who she was trying to get more in with, they were brand new worn once. Not sure I’ll ever forgive her…
Will do. I put a list together I can send you.
I was so pleased to find them all in a cupboard. My mum was a little perplexed as to my level of excitement about some old magazines and I would have been gutted if she had thrown them out. I feel your pain!
That first pair of ‘proper’ boots. Ouch.
You’d think time would heal, but no.
And if you touched any of your dad’s jizz mags you would be killed…
You know it
