Growing up in Glasgow, skating was a good antidote to the gang culture at the time. Hanging out with kids from different areas not the norm. It was also a good excuse to get out the city. There was a great skatepark in Livingston and we spent a lot of time through in Edinburgh. Usually Bristo Square.
A non violent, non tribal gang culture. Skating, music and getting stoned. Good times.
We used to get hassled by the local bell ends occasionally but by the time it got quite popular they wouldn’t dare come near 50-100 kids with wooden battering rams.

My skate/surf hero, have met him a few times, hung out and surfed with him. They say never meet your heroes but you couldn’t wish to meet a nicer or more humble guy. Bit obsessed to be honest… he’s 70+ and still skating and surfs like a God, well he is. Skip Frye.
I was told by a physio that I had the knees of an 80 year old, haha. I was 30 at the time. Pre covid, I used to do a lot of swimming, especially after work, which I also found good.
