Where to start? Saw them twice, once with Becker in 2015 or something, then without him just last year. Some of the best bands I’ve ever heard live. My LP discography was inherited from my father. Here’s some uncut broadcast footage of the Dan from 2000 that starts off with Green Earnings (skip to 2:20). Two Against Nature era is pretty sweet.

Love that!
Two Against Nature is a solid album. I love Almost Gothic.
Steely Dan is one of the things my wife and I can agree on, musically. Never a complaint when I put them on. I read Donald Fagen’s “Eminent Hipsters” last year - fun stuff, recommended.

I need to read it. I tend to order books and they sit there for months unthumbed.
Had this going through my head last night when I was trying, and failing, to get asleep, i’m blaming this thread lol

love steely dan. for a band that sold so many albums, it’s hard to say that these are “deep cuts” but i’ll list my favorite tracks from the classic era (in order) - one’s your dad may have tended to skip past to get to the “hits”.

Here you go, something for tonight. I often mash up Rikki with this (in my head) during the sombre piano bit. I’m sure Donald Fagen ‘borrowed’ it…

Ahh Steely Dan, the American Beatles of the seventies!
I remember Donald Fagen’s voice being described as the voice of the snake in the garden of Eden.
The Royal Scam their best album in my opinion,…
Many good tunes here already, some more faves:

My first exposure to the genius of Donald Fagen, and I think it also sparked my interest in Jazz…
“I hear you’re mad about Bruuuuubeccck!”. Also reminds me of early MTV.

Crazy this was even made, but I’m guessing they weren’t too upset to take the money and had a laugh. This also fits my top three tracks:

Timely thread - I’ve been listening to this Dan and Dan-adjacent playlist on Spotify recently: Steely Dan Universe
It hasn’t got this on it though - my current fave SD deep cut: Steely Dan | FM (Reprise) - YouTube

That’s a great playlist. Cheers. Favourited.
The sax on that FM Reprise is phenomenal.
