Sonically Genius Records…

This album, Thriller and Madonna’s Like A Virgin, all on cassette, early Sony Walkman, pre teen virgin ears…seeds sown.

I’ve been listening to True Blue LP a bit again and that also sounds fantastic. I guess these were the salad days when the major labels would think nothing of flying Phil Collins over on Concorde to fiddle with some high hats on someone else’s record.

Similarly got a mint copy of this at a charity shop for a few quid last month, amazing production sounds immense. Bob Clearmountain mix.

Yes !! I agree … The whole Padlock ep is a masterclass in production

Both Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders. ATCQ-Bob Power and his Pultec trickery…

I’ve probably mentioned this before, but Justice Cross is one of the most dynamic pieces of vinyl I own. The production is sooo fing good!

The whole EP, but especially this. Remember listening to it for the first time and being blown away by how those little high hits that happen now and again just seemed to shimmer like nothing I’d heard before.

Basic channel and rhythm and sound surely would be in here as well?

Yes, David Mancuso used to play this at Loft parties, it sounds incredible

Oh Dear. Yet another thread on Test Pressing starts costing me money

Yeah this indeed. Although going back to the start of the thread allowed me to dig out a few records last night that I hadn’t listened to in while…

I had Gene Clark’s White Light album and loved the folky, acoustic troubadour sound. Thought this would be more of the same… It ain’t! Took some getting used to, I’d never heard it before and picked it up second hand before it got a reissue when I lived in Japan. Used to drift off to sleep with it. Love this track so much, pretty perfect to my ears.

Its a brilliant album.

On Gene Clarks headstone is 'No Other"

The Byrds and all associated had ridiculous talent and ridiculous sharp edges

One of my biggest musical loves that album. So good.

Have you heard the Mark Lanegan/Soulsavers version of this? It’s what first put me onto the genius of Gene Clark.
