A really lovely girl. Pretty cool too. I always thought I was being hilarious by getting confused between Matthew and Henry Kelly. Surprisingly we are still friends

I went to uni with a lovely blind girl who went on Going for Gold.
All was going well and she progressed to the next round, where she was assigned the question category ‘flags’.
Being blind from birth, she was always going to struggle with questions like: “What Caribbean flag consists of a yellow cross on a green and black background?”
Henry could/should have given her another category, but decided to plough on regardless…
She was on the next bus home.

I was one Fifteen to One when I was a student. We only went to the auditions because they paid you like £15 or something, but I did alright.
When it came to the real thing I went out in the first round. William G Stewart was terrifying.

Luciano Pavarotti in an airport in Italy in the mid 80s. Id have been 7 or 8, theres a pic somewhere. He was getting on one of those buggys and my uncle was a big opera fan so we went over to say buongiorno.
My first summer job was at a hotel where Shakin Stevens son was a porter. Good bloke.

Got chatting to Young Guru (engineer/producer for Jay Z) whilst digging for cheap records in soho record + tape exchange about 12 years ago. Didnt realise it was him until a couple of hours later though!

Bought my decks and mixer on ebay for 400 quid in 2012, turned up to a flat in Barnet with my mate, had a nice chat and was given a pair of sennheisers for free as well before leaving. The car journey home was then spent discussing how bonkers the bloke was.
After setting them up the next day I found an invoice in there addressed to a Brandon Block.
Being a young man at the time I didn’t know who he was until I was out for a skate in Northampton town centre a few weeks later and saw his name advertised outside Fever nightclub. When I got home I proceeded to search his name before watching the video of him at the brits.
Cracking deal still though mind, two 1210s and a xone 32 for 400 quid !

in the days of MySpace Derek B posted that he was selling his record collection. I got in touch and said I couldn’t buy the whole thing in bulk but would love to have a look. He was kind enough to oblige so me and a mate met him at a house (also in Barnet iirc) that he was renting out.
The records were in the loft and the family that lived there were actually moving out that day so it was a bit hectic.
We went up in the loft and went through a ton of records, picking out what we wanted while Derek chatted to us and answered questions about the old days of London pirates and touring with Public Enemy and LL Cool J. He was a really nice guy and even rapped a bit of Bad Young Brother for us!
After a few hours I left with a stack of vinyl at £5 each, think I did about £200 that day.
Got the feeling it wasnt his actual collection as there was too many obvious titles missing, but we definitely got some gems, Was a big deal for me as he was one of the first rappers I got into when I was a kid around '88.
He sadly died a couple of years later at quite a young age. God knows what happened to the rest of his records.
