It’s been a gradual process over several years so…no…
I actually shifted a bulk of them over 15 years ago when I ended up.moving three times in 18 months and swore I’d never shift that many records ever again. In 2005 a guy I knew was setting up a record shop in my hometown and he offered me £4,000 for about 3500 records (mainly rubbish 90’s stuff that was just gathering dust). I couldn’t rip his arm off quickly enough.
Paid for a trip to Ibiza. Well, a couple of bottles of water in Amnesia anyway…
It’s interesting how many have thinned out their collection. I am down to a third of what I had. Moving, ageing, taste differences etc. I actually like having less records which is something I never thought I’d say.
I’m a luddite. I enjoy the look, smell and feel of the records as much as the music. Most of what I buy is second hand and I only spend what I make from selling stuff on Discogs. I also love discovering new (old) things by buying someone elses collection.
I also prefer the limitation of djing on vinyl, although if I played out more than once every couple of months I’m sure my back would be happy to go digital.
