Talking of Jumbo

If anyone has seen the documentary “Sound It Out” the shop shut late last year after the owner passed away. If you haven’t seen it - highly recommended

First record store I worked at. Didn’t know my arse from my elbow but worked hard and was a sponge. First Moodymann record I ever heard was in here, first Charles Webster record, introduction to labels like Gourmet, Driftwood, Seasons, etc and also the first time I ever heard a super wavy piece of Underground Resistance. Proper gave me the feels walking by.

And also, Cape Town looking magnificent today:

Cape Town is such a stunning city. How’s the load shedding?

I’ve never been and always meant to try when visiting my sister in Derbyshire - has it been picked over or does he still get a load of new stock in regularly?

None at the moment.

I go in but give up looking most times as it just too much to deal with, pretty small shop but you can barely move around it. Worth a visit if you’re in town tho.

Not sure, even late 90s the new stock would be some nutter come in with carrier bag of charity shop garbage which Rob would given them a £ for & just put in a pile ( still in bag with other bags) - Like he could never not buy records
He once had some great Northern Soul 7" outiside of the debris

May be worth a curious visit but probably v depressing

I dont remember getting that much from Robs over years , only 2 that standout are
1 sided copy of Lorraine Johnson Feed the Flame
Five Stairsteps Ooh Child 7" which when I asked if he had he said give me a few days to find

Great he’s still going though

I’ve got a pair of those too! Still mourning the loss of my Inner Rhythm slip matts that got nicked when my decks went in a burglary.

I knew one of the owners of Atlas. He intro’d me to Soho record shops - Flying and others, and through those I got a job at Vinyl Junkies.
He was a bit of a “face”, but liked to be hidden away - used to get me to go and buy records for him.
Last I heard he went off to live in Japan about 15+ years ago.

Craig “More rare” and the legendary Crazy beat mailing list extracted most of my spare money once upon a time. I can almost date the add from Piccadilly records change in advert design style and address “post bomb” :slightly_frowning_face:.
