Record shops you have known and loved

Still going in Prestwich I think?

There was one on the walkway of the big block behind M&S and Selfridges, top end of Deansgate that was great too. That building is pretty much rubble now.

Yeah, they were near Heaton Park in Prestwich a couple of years ago, I called in when passing once but they’ve now moved to near the shopping centre, not been to that one because I have a crazy ex who lives around there :grimacing:

I think the one behind M&S was Expansions?
Called in there a couple of times over the years.

Can’t remember the other one on the walkway things a few doors down frkm doctor Herman’s head shop?

Sure I remember the record shop up the walkway on Deansgate as being called Polar Bear records ?

Not sure if it was the same location, but Vinyl exchange had a CD only shop for a while round there.

Golden Girls “Kinetic” (Orbital mix) was my first purchase from Eastern Bloc. Before then I used to sit in the window, and leave after 10 minutes with pockets of flyers :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

The one on the walkway could have been called that, Expansion was near Victoria in the early 90s but then moved I think so thought it might have been there but maybe not.
The CD Vinyl Exchange was on Bridge St, it’s now a Brothel lol

There was a Mr Scruff tea house but I don’t think the stock was primarily his as it was quite expansive and rather off the beaten track (which does now sound like maybe his records). The sort of place that you found all the non-English versions of disco hits and a lot of house music. Was all priced to sell as well.

I used to suffer from mind eraser whenever I went in there. All 45’s and the sheer volume of them would overwhelm me. Always left with whatever whoever was behind the counter would recommend and anything Norman Whitfield related.

I was in there once when Noddy Holder was buying some stuff, he used to have a radio show in Manchester so maybe it was stuff for that?
I remember he had an impressive amount of hair for a man of his age.
Also Cash Money was in there buying Hip Hop & classic breaks 45s one Saturday, I was next to him on one of the listening decks.

I was behind him at the airport in Taiwan many years ago. I knew it was him because his bag said Cash Money, his tshirt said Cash Money, his necklace said Cash Money and his hat said Cash Money. Put two and two together real quick.

Just think, Noddy was probably younger than we are now.

Wasn’t Decoy Records around there?

The name rings a bell but it’s been so long…

Remember buying ‘Melting Pot’ from there on 7" and going to look at the bomb damage to The Arndale close by, September 96 I think.
