Clock tower records in Bridport, sometimes good sometimes seems like he has sold most of his stock and is about to close. Last time I was in he had some quite good house/80s Balearic. Normally has a few bargain bins.

Bridport music small selection of soul/disco/80s out the back

Looks like it’s vinyl Saturday this Saturday. Normally there’s records all over town on all sorts of market stalls, but not as big as it used to be.

Oh blimey, we’re staying near Lyme Regis so that’ll do nicely!

Actually I tell a lie- just checked- it was ‘Chunes’ in Weymouth where I found some decent disco stuff… chaotic store with a lot of charity shop rubbish but some good stuff in there last time I went- got Sarr Band Double Action and Disco Special 12” Discotheque and a few other bits and bobs

I remember when I was on holiday in Lyme Regis a few years ago -there was a antiques market that had a very good record stall inside of the second hand variety -remember picking up a Stasis 12 and some reggae 12a

Bought many a record in there early nineties Claire who worked in there was super helpful.
Did the shop sign used too have a cowboy saloon style font ? Think I found quite a few mo wax promos in there in the bargain bin.
Great times.

Sorry to report that Urban Vinyl is no more! And the nearby Chunes is also sadly deceased. Phil’s Vinyl Vault was open though even if the racks werent exactly bursting with stock. Managed to find a couple of bits in there (the Hodge/Acre 12" on Wisdom Teeth for a couple of quid, a cheap copy of Hyph Mngo, and that Bernie Leadon / Michael Georgiades album that has Glass Off on it). Plenty of cash left for Bridport tomorrow i guess :))

Was my local spot, but didn’t really frequent it much. Was a bit intimidating as a 17 yr old in 1991.
Though certainly pivotal shop/ label/ production house in the nascent hardcore into D&b/Jungle scene.

Phil opened the Soul Cellar in a little arcade nearby in around ‘93 which had some good stock.
Was next door to Green River Records which was really good: all rock & indie one side, electronica the other. I remember buying all the Warp AI lps, Sabres through to Leo Anibaldi stuff.
There was even and ‘old boys’ Rock shop opposite which wasn’t great but outlasted the others.
Back in the days when even a pissy little arcade had multiple record shops in it!

A short film of the legendary Manchester record shop, Manchester Underground Records. Filmed in 1994, features interviews with Russ Marland, DJ Welly and Kenny Grogan.

Found them a bit moody in there but less intimidating than Eastern Bloc. I can remember really vividly buying particular records in MU - ONJ/I Need You, Frank De Wulf/Moonflower, and Disco Elements vol 1. Weird what you retain.

As you say, it was less intimidating than Eastern Bloc. Mike was there at the same time as Russ and Kenny iirc. He went on to run another shop whose name escapes me, it was kind of behind Piccadilly Records, then he moved to a shop in Bolton.

In fact the only time I ever went in Eastern Bloc after it moved across the road was when I heard them playing my record, that was understandably quite a moment and is probably one of the best memories of my life.

Sold a lot of Northern Soul.

I can’t remember the name at all, neither can my friend who I think worked there with Mike. Memory’s not good at all.

There were a lot of record shops in that little area in the mid to late 90s, most i’ve forgotten the names of as well tbh.
