Unbelievably good collection. Favela Chic compilations also…

Like others have mentioned there’s so much stuff that I barely get time to check out the new artists/releases… I’ve loads of faves. A couple immediately spring to mind. I went to a record shop out there some years ago and picked up a stack of CDs. Paulinho da Viola was one, I don’t know much about him, but I really like this track:

Killer album. Some great backing and arrangements by Azimuth.

Be rude not to list some Azimuth faves at this point:

Well maybe more than a few. Their first few albums are solid.

Ed Motta is kind of a genius, to me. My favorite record of his is Aystelum, mostly '70s fusion with an extended tribute to Broadway show tunes somewhere in the middle. This edit of a track done with his late '80s - mid-'90s group Conexão Japeri is more of a boogie workout, but I love it too! Stream Ed Motta - Já!!! Not once mention of Tim Maia. Hang your heads in shame.

It’s a sickness :slightly_smiling_face:

I think as I was DJing through the nu-jazz heydays I explored quite a bit, had a few weeks digging in Brazil at one stage and got a bit tired of the same old tunes, Brasil has been well mined and publicised over the years although the 80s and 90s probably needs a bit of attention. There seems to be quite a bit of unearthing of old Brasilian psychedelic gems which I’m well up for.

It really is the most musical country I’ve ever visited though. You hear people practising and playing everywhere, when tunes come on in a bar half the bar will start singing along, caipirinha street sellers parked on street corners with big mobile soundsystems. Maracatu practise sessions on Recife street corners with 50 musicians all armed with drums. I’d love to go back at some stage.

Still worth checking live, although they’ve obviously got a new keyboard player now. I saw them in Berlin about 4 years ago - they smash it.

Miscellaneous 70’s bangers I love.

Don Beto sings with a mega foreigner accent but most foreigners would never notice, which is funny.

This Erasmo Carlos record is a masterpiece!

Same song as above, by Wanderlea, with her then husband Egberto Gizmonti on musical directing duties…

Here’s another one of his compositions on that album:

Which he recorded on his album ‘Carmo’ too, with Wanderlea singing:

Egberto by the way is in my opinion our greatest musician ever (even better than Hermeto Paschoal although close)

This record is also fantastic, a soundtrack album to a documentary movie about Emerson Fittipaldi, musical direction by the Valle brothers and featuring Azymuth. In fact if I’m not mistaken the track Azimuth in this album is where they got their name from. I believe this was repressed recently.

That is lovely! Thanks for this.

Brilliant selection thank you. Loving them all.

Brand new album by a friend of mine, very jazzy, very youthful, very good. Worth the listen.
