kind of funny that after talking about dubtribe’s “mother earth” the first song that played in my headphones on my dog walk was “we’re drowning” by mr. fingers.
same message, but completely different vibes. i would never call mr. fingers “depressing” but it’s sort of an indicator of where globe’s environmental destruction is taking music through the various stages of grief - from dubtribe’s anger, to larry’s depression.

Went to New York in November '95, and this was being played everywhere alongside Erick Sermon - BomDigi, D’Angelo - Cruising, Smooth Da Hustler - Broken Language, and Raekwon - Ice Cream. Funkmaster Flex was all over the airwaves, and Tony Humphries and Frankie Knuckles were in charge of the Saturday Night Dance Party on Hot 97. I came back with about 50 tapes of radio broadcasts. Need to dig em out. Anyway, I digress. This got me into discovering samples and loving Jaydee.

I remember having mix of 2h on a 50p discount CD Single that may have also had a MAW mix
As one of their 1st mixes, was selecting MAW to remix Heavenlys idea or someone from US Label do you think?
It’s probably a Warner idea I’m sure. Isn’t the melody and beats borrowed from another release on this? Might also have been sampled into the UK scene on another big record, that I can’t name at the moment.

This is an interesting one. Carrot Green is a good producer and DJ from Rio, he put this out a while back on Noema’s label I think. Not really what I play these days but it holds up, especially this tune:

I bought the 12” pretty much when it came out and I don’t think I’ve ever properly listened to the MAW long dub until now! I’ve always played the B Boy Mix. I’ve never really been bothered about the Weatherall mix, which is a bit meandering and dare I say boring …

My go. We’ve all heard it countless times. I always preferred the original R&S sleeves for the artwork vs the generic UK ones. I did have it on Transmat too.
A local DJ called ‘Billy B’ used to double-up two copies with loads of quick cuts that i’ve never had the skills to even attempt to replicate, but sounded phenominal at squat party/mini raves in 1991 (and thats the version i can ‘hear’ in my mind to this day)
Edit- Just realized i have this version too. Possible floaty banger, or just straight banger?

Ok. I bought this for the fantastic rework of Stars. I’m sure the other tracks are great. I don’t recall playing them.
Next up, Terry Lin. Soundfactory Dub. Found the vocal a little bit too fromagey. Knuckles though innit?!
Finally, Alternations. Remember picking this up in Black Market one Saturday afternoon, and then hearing it in every record shop after that. Toss up between Jungle Mix or Planetary Access Mix … Jungle today.

Bought this from Rival Records (Plymouth) the day the UK Pressing hit the shelves.
I remember liking it at the time but I wasnt blown away by it, there was so much good stuff coming out in 92 that I feel this kind of got out shined by the other releases coming out at the time.
KRS1’s brother Kenny Parker does a weekly show on youtube and he did a deep dive into this album (he produced a few tracks on it). So a few months ago I decided to go and listen to this album end to end. so my 2025 opinion on the album is that it does have some cool tracks but as an album its bloated, too many so so tracks filling the album out.
Jive were disappointed with how the album sold and really disliked the Kenny Parker produced tracks, I think they told KRS they will not put out anything produced by Kenny again.
This was the last BDP album.
The Pal Joey produced track Duck Down is my favorite track on the album.
