Shelf 23, record 76

And the winner is Those Guys/Tonite.

Thanks @fred_dibnah for making me look good here! What a choice.

Top quality 90s garage house that was a big tune in the Tonic/Bognor days, would have featured heavily on tapes by Rob Acteson, Timmi Magic etc.

Strong reminder of pre-university years, trying to save up money to go to India but spending much of it on Doves.

Didn’t buy this at the time. It was a later Discogs/2nd hand purchase.

Still sounds great today.

Picked up a couple of months back in a great second hand store in Nairn, which is 15 miles East of Inverness. Always find something interesting despite the location. A very reasonable ten quid.

I was going to do this.

I need two numbers one between 1-13 and one between 0-80

Good pick, as shelf 3 is one of the good ones. You’ve hit prime warp/klf/primal scream territory and landed upon this

https://www.discogs.com/release/90239-The-KLF-Kylie-Said-To-Jason-The-Remixes

Not their finest moment but an important step on the way to pop superstardom. Bought from the record shop that used to be by Croydon East station and was always guaranteed to have the latest KLF promos

Another 3….

No idea where I got this but was almost definitely one I picked up in my teens, like most other Motown 7s I own. They don’t get much play but I can’t bring myself to part with them - Motown was the gateway for my Indie loving teenage self to explore soul and disco.

Recent-ish reissue on Backatcha of an underrated lovers cut.

A fairly recent boot sale find, lovely nature sounds recorded by the British don of field recordings, Eric Simms.

Am enjoying this thread! Have only catalogued some of my collection but here goes.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7360061-Liquid-Liquid-Optimo

Probably bought in rough trade west on a lunchtime splurge when it got reissued. Used to spend my entire lunch hour in that place.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7183442-Unknown-Artist-My-Rules-3

vandervolgen edit probably bought around the same time at phonica possibly.

https://www.discogs.com/release/3737290-Various-We-Bang-The-Bomb

Probably the only one out of the three I picked that gets any regular plays. Absolute banger of an album again probably purchased in rough trade. Went through a phase of light sounds dark purchases their compilations and 12’s were usually pretty interesting.

Sorry, but Kylie Said Trance still bangs hard, imho

In my wants list, especially if it has the poster. Seen it a few times but price always prohibitive

Feel VERY fortunate to have been gifted this 12" from a friend that had just visited LA, and found this for $0.50 at Amoeba. He knew I loved French House and brought it home for me. Wild to see how much it’s going for on Discogs right now. Anyways, both songs rip!

Sublime album from Arooj (who has a new one out!) that somehow has crept up in price.

I bought this because it reminded me of the kind of track that Junior Vaquez would tear the shit out of at Sound Factory mid-90s. Had this been released 20 years earlier it would definitely have been on Tribal. A pseudonym of Matthew Styles.

Have never bothered with listing my collection on Discogs, so I’ve used these shelf numbers as well.

23 along was actually the Peaches Sade cover @DistantWaves had, so I’ve gone for 24 instead, which is this UK swingbeat record: https://www.discogs.com/release/22115683-Calvin-King-If-Only-Time-Of-My-Life

In a weird coincidence, the video of this on Discogs is from @DistantWaves YouTube channel. I think I remember getting it in part of a record swap arranged through instagram.

76 along is a very battered copy of: https://www.discogs.com/release/10874482-Nu-Moodie-Physical-Attraction

I’m not too keen on the vocal versions of this, but love the version, again a swingbeat-ish sounding kind of track. Bought this for a couple of quid at Out On The Floor records, in Camden. Was digging through their bargain bins for a couple of hours whilst some old sound system heads were swapping tales and singing along to tunes at the counter, very enjoyable afternoon.

Ha! What are the chances. I sold that Calvin King record on Discogs last year I think (possibly to you?)

Just had a look, it was me you sold it to!

A monster of a record that fitted that 2005 sound perfectly. Immense on a good system.
