Pleasingly Idiotic Records

After reading “The Balearic Seminar” that @Apiento posted last week I wondered if anyone had any more suggestions for pleasingly idiotic Balearic records.

I’ve always been a fan of the mentioned Laid Back - White Horse, but I only recently discovered Magazine 60 - Don Quichotte when I was watching American Fiction a few weeks back. Was straight onto Discogs to grab a copy.

Wondering what other tracks fit the bill as it seems I’m a fan of pleasingly idiotic Balearic records.

I am also a big fan of Magazine 60’s ‘Rendez-vouz sur la Costa Del Sol’, which certainly fits nicely into this category.

Another one to throw into the mix would be ‘Tarzan Loves The Summer Nights’ by Big Ben Tribe.

Yeah I checked that one out after hearing Don Quichotte.

Tarzan Loves The Summer Nights definitely fits the bill. Thanks.

I don’t know if this counts as balearic, but bonkers English lyrics sung by continental europeans always does it for me…

We’ve got to have Electric Salsa in this thread really, haven’t we?

I’ve a suspicion that eating the sexy banana might have a hidden meaning here.

Such a banger. One of my fave Italo tracks ever.

Leonard Cohen’s version is worth hearing, really brings out the inherent pathos in the lyrics. :+1:

Ah, but I think he did a rendition of Chiquita Banana, subtly different :joy:
I could hear Serge Gainsborg in the b’ side Samedi Soir though.

Loads of tracks that definitely fit the bill. I’d totally forgotten about Video Life.

Not sure it’s balearic but it’s definitely idiotic:

Sold a copy of this to a well known Glasgow DJ at the start of the lockdown and found it weirdly reassuring and pretty funny that despite world events, health and financial insecurity, people were still putting a brave face on things by listening to totally idiotic and incredibly optimistic records in the house.
