It’s not a noir but the bleak aspect is the same.
More greatness from the genius of Billy Wilder

If you are in the UK, On the Waterfront is currently on iplayer. I watched it recently and fell in love with Brando all over again. Elia Kazan providing material for Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge. And the classic line, “ I cudda bin a contender”.
Just re-watched The Magnificent Ambersons. So haunting and beautiful. Amazing performances, the story source material is ace, and it’s maybe the worst cinema catastrophe that so much footage is lost to time. How the hell could anyone think a happy ending would work after watching 3/4 of this movie?
