Yeah absolutely… love that film
One for the London folk.
Classic films at the Prince Charles Cinema over the next few months.
French new wave business.
I was a huge fan of The Graduate growing up, I used to watch it over and over on my wee VHS/TV combo in my room as a teenager
Same with Woody Allen films, Manhattan in particular. However after seeing what a dark and controlling industry powerhouse he is as opposed to indie quirk he makes out, I see his films in a totally different light. Especially when you re-examine how he portrays himself in his own films with young female co-actors. Murky.
Believe it or not I only watched it for the first time a few weeks back on iplayer. Definitely of its time, borderline (or not so borderline) stalking!?
Loved the uncertainty of the ending on the bus…
Definitely of it’s time I think and not so borderline!
Does 1985 count as old time? Nearly 40 years ago so maybe so. Either way, one of the greatest films ever made for free on YouTube.
Watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid last year for the first time….jeezo it’s good (be kind I’m just catching up albeit at 52)
I had this on dvd. Incredible movie. The insanity of war.
We should really give a trigger warning, it’s one of the most horrifying films ever made.
Yes it certainly stays with you. Almost psychedelic in its brutality.
Imma watch this when I feel up to it
Oof one of the toughest ones ever. I always found it amazing that the same director made the brilliant Soviet comedy Welcome, or No Trespassing…what a range. Also his wife was the incredible director Larisa Shepitko whose films were reissued recently by Criterion. Well worth your time!
Crimes and Misdemeanors is utterly brilliant. Not available for streaming anywhere. We try to re-watch once a year.
Manhattan, Play It Again Sam, Annie Hall, Stardust Memories. He made so many great films. Reality is he may well be a danger, Not good.
Thanks I will hunt down those recommendations
Old art deco cinema near me is closing soon for a restoration and doing a run of shows of old classics before they shut. I hope to get a few of these. You might know the cinema from Phil Kierans last album, the Strand, his studio is there and he named the album after it. It’s a great place
forgot about this one. Absolute classic. Moricone soundtrack ups the Balearic points too pretty sure David holme’s has played something from it on set recorded at hostal La torre
Edit 1988 isn’t really old time! But the film seems so much older in my head!.
Pure joy. Love this film.
