Kia Synth

Bit random but Kia the carmaker released a synth. Going to have a fiddle as it’s free.

I can see where they’re going with it. Yamaha makes motorbikes and pianos.

I’m GASing on the OTO Boum to fit into my ultra compact 1010 Music Blackbox/Bluebox and Make Noise O Coast setup. Anyone using one?

Go for it if you can afford it. The OTO boxes are ace.

Oh wow, blast from the past. Old school NI. Is this the one where he’s talking about sampling kicks from old VHS… or something like that?

Edit: yes it is!

Hey test pressing peeps does anybody have any good synth vst plugins - preferably free but will pay if they are really good. I’ve got the dexed dx7 but looking for something more analog / modular sounding?

Sort of making like downtempo trancey stuff atm

Also just any cool vsts

thanks in advance

I mainly use the effects that come with Ableton, but I do love the space echo plug from Arturia.

TAL U No LX for the best Juno 60 emulation and pretty cheap.

What DAW are you using?

Surge XT is a really good free synth and will do everything you need: https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/

Superb wavetable synth with a free option: https://vital.audio/

Valhall Super Massive: Valhalla Super Massive - Valhalla DSP

U-he Tyrell: TyrellN6: A compact, sporty synth | u-he

Lots of really good free stuff here: Best Free Plugins - KVRAudio - Page 1 of 170

Thanks, i’ve got abelton lite. Mostly just make music through a minilogue xd and tr06 but going away for a bit so need something more portable. I guess something that is similar in terms of an analog workflow for sound design.

thank you so much @FireAppleRed I will have a look at these.

Do you think it is worth paying or are the free ones fine for novice?

I think between Surge and Vital (basic) there’s enough to keep you going for good while. If you’re just starting out they will be good synths to learn, they sound fantastic and they are capable of making any kind of sounds.

If you’re feeling like you want to buy one then Serum or Vital (pro) ares great versatile starter synths. There are a lot of tutorials for both on youtube for all sorts of genres and styles. You can buy it on splice.com as a rent to buy for 9.99 per month. Vital (pro) is $80. I’d go for Vital over Serum as Serum hasn’t been updated for a while and Vital sounds amazing and has an great GUI.

Just on Vital now, brilliant thanks for the tip!

The OB-Xa plugin does a good Oberheim job for free. Dexed does the DX-7 stuff better than the original.
