I worked admin for Home in their Vauxhall office for a couple of months during the opening. All the Home staff ever talked about and went too was Fabric.
Right time, right place, etc.
And without watching that shite video…![]()
IIRC the dance music press were all predicting big things for HOME and Oakenfold was saying it would change the world and all sorts of stars were billed for the opening night and in the end I think Sid Owen turned up…
IIRC, the fact Westminster refused it a 6am license ar the outset, was the writing on the wall. Also, the West End at the point had become wally/tourist central and all the ‘cool’ clubs were pretty much all out east, and the era of the superclub was well amd truly over.
I mean, a 7 floor club, FFS!
Yeah it tanked very quickly. Think the police raided it one night maybe?
I think there was an interview with the owner (that bloke from Cream) saying in hindsight they shouldnt have picked that location.
I like that Fabric fully went the distance by sticking to their guns.
yeah it was certainly ambitious going for the West End market haha. I guess it reflected the arrogance of the dance mass market. Many players thought they were indestructible. And then of course there was the crash. One of my colleagues was into hard house and used to go up to Passion in Coalville and said the last one was so dead they even filled the place out with inflatable stickmen…
It feels like we’re due another superclub crash only this time on the festie circuit - but maybe the marketing bods are savvier these days?
I see clearer than most, sit here contented now my trees are ghosts
I have to admit that Weatherall letter was a bit too close for comfort.
I feel like Weatherall would be fairly non-plussed by all the canonisation that goes on ![]()
100% this
I always imagined him going on the ALFOS facebook group incognito and making up tracks that didn’t exist just to amuse himself
Oh lord that is brilliant ![]()
