Haha yes, Mr Rampling was a big fan I remember.
Here are some of my Mum’s/Dad’s T-shirts from the late 80’s in Ibiza. I still wear them as I love them, especially the one of Es Paradis and the Summer of Love and hearts.
Great t-shirts / I feel old!
I wonder if that is this night Rocky & Diesel - Summer 1988 (Part 2) - YouTube
Good old Barbarella’s. This is it now…
Wow. Croatia has gone downhill since my last visit to Tisno.
Grew up nearby in Heston, but sadly never went (pre- or post- McDs conversion)
As a 16 year old from Essex, Spike Island totally blew my mind. Have really strong memories of dancing to Testone by Sweet Exorcist and Beef by Gary Clail/ On U Sound (found out what these tracks were in the days and weeks after getting home). The best bit was getting on on some guy’s shoulders during the long coda to Standing Here. It was around sunset, a sea of happy people. Just wonderful. The Roses got me into so many different kinds of music. I was already into house but they got me into Hendrix, Sly, James Brown, Funkadelic, Northern Soul. Every year on 27th May, I think of Spike Island. I’ve been to many better gigs / events over the years but nothing has had such an impact on me.
Fantastic!
The Happy Mondays/808 State GMEX gig in 1990 had a similar impact on me.
Yes! And another tune at Spike Island that was huge was Cubik
Roses at Blackpool Empress Ballroom made a big impression on me.
I arrived wearing a Pixies t shirt, left in one with a big lemon on the front!
I personally thought it was one of the worst I’ve been to.
The sound quality was absolutely shite. Me and my mates got off before the end.
Rodger that
Think I was at this. They all tend to blur a bit these days.
