My Son has just turned 16 and has almost zero interest in music.
Everyone always presumes he would be music crazy like I am as hes grown up in a House full of records and me playing music a lot, but its just never appealed to him.
I have in recent years I have tried to encourage him into music as he needed another interest other than computer gaming, if he were allowed he would have played game 24 hours a day it was all he cared about, so I really wanted to help him find another interest (a more social one).
In the 2022/23 Football season I took him to a Spurs game, and that was it, he got into football, something he HATED he suddenly loved overnight, Im happy he found something. Maybe one day he will hear the right tunes and that might flick a switch in him and spark an interest in music.

My fourteen year old daughter loves music and spends lots of time making Spotify playlists - she’s mostly into the higher quality end of Hip Hop / RnB / Soul - Little Simz, Cleo Sol, Tyler The Creator etc. but has recently become obsessed with Eyes Without A Face by Billy Idol so maybe the Balearic gene is kicking in …

Generally she has next to no interest in my record collection or the music I play.

My six year old boy loves The Chain and hates Don’t Stop Me Now. There is hope.

Eyes Without A Face, currently the number one bop with our 2 teenage girls and their friends. Tik Tok of course, but hey.

Eldest (14) is into 90s hip hop and “french touch”, youngest (13) more into stuff like The Weekend and Artic Monkeys. Family Spotify works really well for us, everyone makes playlists and it’s a great way to share stuff.

Taking the eldest and 2 of her mates to the Roundhouse in Nov to see Yaeji. Not that they’re huge fans, but she is desperate to go to something vibey, and they love the track Raingurl. I reckon we’ll have fun. Wish Overmono hadn’t been sold out tho! In general I found it difficult to find shows to take them to in London that allow 14+ year-olds onto the dancefloor (seated was a deal breaker for her). Any tips apprecaited!
