4 discs, some stuff i’ve never heard of before.

bringing it up-to-date - and this is a lot more electronic - but by far and away my favourite band at the moment who do that slightly baggy studio-esque thing are Pleasure Pool - go and see them NOW if you haven’t caught them live yet:

Sort of related… fantastic Da Silva / McCready track, which has never strayed far from my bag over the years…

I think this predated their Hey Mr DJ remix on Cleveland City, which begat their remix of Colourblind which was the OG Joi Cardwell vocal of that Jones Girls cover that Da Silva then went on to reuse a couple of decades later with Maceo Plex…

Used to love fucking about with that acapella, and on the rare occasions I’ve played tunes for others since, have had fun bringing it back out
TBH, this also used to get a play if the other seemed to work, and vice versa… Why not, eh.

Ah man I used to love that Gun track. The record got lost somewhere along the way. Thanks for the reminder of some great memories.

This one sort of fits in here I think.

Make A Dance remix of Django Django.

Total banger, imo.

the remixes of Renegade Soundwave were amazing. The Leftfield one got all the fanfare, but the international underground mix was the one that really did it for me. I also didn’t realise that was Serge Gainsbourg till years later!

What a bloated mess. Also, what’s Bez contributing? From the sound of that track, it may have been the lyrics. The Mondays gave us 3 incredible records, but that last of those was 33 years ago. Apart from a couple of great pop tunes on the first Black Grape album, nothing has hit the mark for Shaun and co, and the fact that they can still pull a crowd just shows how people are willing to cling to nostalgic pangs of youth. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they are still earning a living via music, but it’s been a hefty trial for the listener and old fans whenever they release anything new!
