Val Kilmer. Interesting dude…
was this mentioned
I wanted to post this in the Brush with fame type thread but can’t remember the name of it.
This is regarding the now late Val Kilmer.
Some time between '97 and '99 a mate asked if I would play a gig with him in a photographic studio party. I had played a party there once before and knew the studio owner. It wasn’t my type of crowd, very fashion/film moneyed up glam types and wannabees. I initially said no, but the money was good and he really wanted a wingman, so I agreed.
When we got there it was also a fancy dress(not my thing also). The studio owner greeted us dressed as a WWII GI and opened his utility pouch, which was full of every kind of refreshment you could want, we got to choose.
Fully refreshed, I played my set, there was a few people behind the DJ area and a couch. When I finished my set I sat on the couch and started chatting to an American guy. We had a really great chat about all kinds of stuff. I went to my mate (who was now DJing) for a cigarette, and he informed me that the person that I was talking to was Val Kilmer. We talked for maybe a couple of hours on that couch, I didn’t bring up his job. He was funny, interesting, intelligent and we were definitely in the refreshment groove together so that helped the conversation flow.
I remember thinking afterwards what a nice guy he seemed, and that experience is one of the memories that I’m very fond of. Saddened to hear about his passing. A true individual in an industry that prefers bland personas.
" Val Kilmer in case you didn’t know he was an actual scene head and went to early junglist NYC raves with Goldie in the 90s and kept it up through the 2010s. Clip here is from the 2011 minidoc on Sean Carnage Parking Lot in LA"
andrew lovefingers apparently did a thing with him, mentioned it on a insta thread. sounds like a real one, i appreciate that. salute.
Clem Burke of Blondie. Great drummer.
probably my first “favorite” drummer. hella powerful, always micromoments in front of the beat. his drumming built anticipation.
2.54 of your life that you are more than happy to give up. RIP Clem, not sure what I’m going to do when Debbie departs…
First record I ever bought, 7” from boots. Dinked, didn’t get an adapter and had to go back the following day.
I was a budding drummer too and it had to be Premier cos that was what Clem Burke played. A really great drummer.
she’ll live forever!
Chap on NTS is saying Andy Bey has passed.
