Those jazz bops! Russ Dewberry(?). Dudes in spats! I remember.
I think I wrote this here before but while at college in Boston I used to have a jazz radio show on Sunday afternoons. The show was basically broadcast over the internet, and the internal television channels at the university which meant somtimes it would play in teachers’ lounges and the sort. There was a phone number people could call in, and the one time it happened to me was when I played the A side to Karma, and a disgruntled TA or professor called in and said “WTF is this music you’re playing and can you turn it off? I’m trying to grade student papers and it sounds like a pet shop is on fire!”. Laughed my ass off at that one. Obviously I did not comply.
Years later another radio station asked me to do a Jazz show here in São Paulo and I called it “Pet Shop on Fire”
RIP Pharoah.
The record collecting Don
and be sure to read this extensive article to be immersed in the true essence of a remarkable collector
He was such a dude. I was spellbound by “Desperate Man Blues” A kid with His own pirate radio station, a musical Bazooka Joe.
RIP. That docu was amazing. I wonder where his collection will end up?
Surely the Smithsonian or similar would be a logical place but I’m sure Joe would want the records to be played, not displayed!
RIP coolio:
a few years back a couple of my pals played some weird festival where coolio was on the bill. they said he was a super nice guy. sad to see the chill ones go, especially at such a relatively young age.
This is great, R.I.P.

I remember him doing similar things here after some gigs… Seemed a good dude…
RIP indeed. Soundtrack of middle school dances for me…everyone got up for Gangsta’s Paradise and dances would close with “CU When You Get There”
Randomly met him in Vegas in 2017, he was lovely.
Was just reading about her in the New Yorker. RIP
I know it’s sorta disrespectful but all I remember when I see Angela Lansbury is Craig Ferguson’s joke that she looks like Paul McCartney
RIP Robbie.
Loved Cracker RIP
