In Memoriam…

There are genuine reasons to hate the Monarchy, I can’t think of many good reasons to love them. Not unless you’re a mental bootlicker

Its the perfomative rush (online at least) to be the biggest hater that does my head in, as much as the gushing Witchells of this world.

I think we’re very much in the minority. I’d say the same about conspicuous grief. The amount of companies on social media posting tributes is obscene to me.

Really can’t stand social media and glad I’m now out of it. Brings out the worst in people.

“people died for the queen to not be my problem”

What does it say? Since I binned Twitter I can’t see anything on the site which is a blessing.

Cash Converters and Poundland paying their respect. Where do we go?

The Royal pound is there for the taking.

I’m not a royalist but George looks like any normal annoying young kid to me.

Soon as I heard the news of her death my first thought was ‘but how will Wayne Linekar pay his respects?’?
It’s what she would have wanted.

I’ll be sad for the pensioners I know who are going to freeze to death in their houses because of soaring energy bills and food availability crises, not the 96 yr old with a nine-figure fortune whose only role was to be born rich and wave at crowds from cars. She was married to a truly awful man, a man who didn’t just make racist jokes but believed that racist jokes were the way to endear himself to “common” people and make them relax - that tells me more about her character than some montages of her in fancy hats over sad music.

Yes but can you imagine what he will be told his entire life about who he is and what he can get away with?

I think Frank B wins the award for most fitting tribute.

People missing the point I think. The idea of national identity is very powerful and emotional. It’s why people go nuts at World Cups. People get very attached to national institutions, there’s a psychological comfort/familiarity factor. Whether you agree politically is irrelevant imo, when you’re talking coins, stamps, military, courts it’s something that is national and transcends rational argument. Of course it’s all ludicrous but I don’t think most people think about it in normal political terms. A lot of people and not just your average royalist nuts were surprised by the sudden emotion they felt, and i think that’s quite telling.

Probably the most moving tribute i’ve seen…
