In Memoriam…

Only 57 too :frowning:

Didn’t know he was still living in Ireland. He would play in bars all over West Cork and Kerry years ago using silly names…

Gutted, heard the news an hour ago.

Big fan of Mark, his solo stuff especially.

He’d been really ill with Covid last year if I recall, but seemed to have recovered. He certainly lived life at full throttle.

57 years full of life, both good and bad.

He most certainly did.

Saw him live a few times in Melbourne, once with the Queens on a blazing hot Big Day Out in front of thousands. The other was just him and an acoustic guitar accompaniment at a small pub in St Kilda. For someone who never moved or engaged in any between song chat whatsoever, he was a mesmerising performer.

Gone to soon

Not music related but Shane Warne has passed away at just 52. An iconic genius figure in cricket. Really sad.

Very sad, he was a wild one to be fair…

Wow, that is young. I always found it interesting how different the perception of Warnie was in the UK to over here in Oz. The whole way that the press can alter the public image of someone. He was an astoundingly good bowler at his prime.

What is the difference in how he is perceived in Oz to here?
I was listening to TalkSport earlier when his death was announced & it was obvious how genuinely he was loved & admired by cricket fans, players & journalists over here.
I’m not a cricket fan so don’t really know the background although knew he was one of the modern greats.

Well over in Oz he was generally painted as a bit of an embarrassment/joke for quite a while, during the period where he was spending a lot of time in the UK in general. He was generally very well liked in the UK during that period. I certainly never thought that badly of him, but due to living in both country’s during that era I got to see quite a stark difference in the way that he was portrayed, and I’m not really sure what the motivations were for the big difference.
I remember him being on UK TV and being asked if he minded what was being reported about him in OZ. He generally just laughed it off and was pretty gracious about it.
It was all a bit strange for me to witness, but I was glad that he was generally embraced in the UK. Having said that, he is still a bit of a sporting legend over here.

I’ve never seen a player be as generous with his time to the fans after a day’s play.
