There’s some pictures of his fans being very generous to him going around…
If that’s how he went out then fair dinkum
Yeah, even more a hero one comment said
can’t be mad at 91 good years. also, really really good years.
willie nelson was one of my first concerts in the late-70’s, at a state fair. it was kind of mind-blowing for me to hear “whiskey river” live, i thought that song only existed in my dad’s car.
In South Africa during his pomp and the dark, quite frankly cheating Darryl Hair years, he was hated. Loads of “it’s not over till the fat lad spins” banners and the abuse he copped if he ever fielded on the boundary, which to be fair he really seemed to enjoy. Then as soon as he retired he was loved. I think as soon as he could no longer ruin your day at Newlands by blowing through your top order he was allowed to be praised objectively. I think he batted the way he lived, not a care in the world.
I hope that’s not the omen of all omens…
Body Heat is amazing - top film for me. We had an interesting family connection - his aunt Virginia lived on Mallorca for years and was responsible for introducing my grandparents.
I liked him in Broadcast News too.
Sad news his version of Dennis Wilsons Holy Man is a beautiful thing
Had he been unwell? 50 is young to go suddenly like that, awful for his family and friends.
Yeah its really good. A brave man to cover songs from that album given the reverence it holds.
That’s a real shocker, far too young….gutted
Just saw that fck sad… A mate keeps saying 50 is the new 80 and he’s a doctor
10 substances found in his body
Hawkins was anti-vax and had played benefit gigs for anti-vax groups, one of which was also promoting AIDS denialism. Very odd.
Which is at odds with the band insisting on full vax status for shows last summer.
warp just announced the passing of chantal passamonte aka mira calix.
from what i remember reading, she was a long-time warp associate, even before she started making records for them. i really enjoyed the first couple of singles she put out, though i have to admit it’s been a while since i revisited them.
sad to see someone so talented and inspirational pass at such a young age.
