Sheeeeeeeet.
RIP Bert Bevans, a fantastic DJ and a real gent. Gutted.
One of Ministry’s original residents, Bert also carried the Studio 54 brand all over the world having made the transition from lighting desk to DJ mixer there, most notably at the infamous Bianca Jagger party. I didn’t know it at the time but first heard him back in the mid-80s at glitzy basement Xenons in Piccadilly, one of the first times I really noticed what a DJ could do.
I put him on 6 or 7 timers over years and he always delivered. A couple were ‘Phantom Of Studio 54’ parties for Halloween launch parties for Revolution vodka bars and he was more than happy to get silly.
I last saw him in the summer and we hung out for a few hours with mutual friends b4 he played a laid back afternoon set at a little art fest in Brockwell Park. He’ll be missed.
Sad news about Nick from Phonica. It’s scary how many people around my age have died recently.
Nice mix of his here: https://youtu.be/sQLfnSQY95Q
RIP Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead
he seemed to be a pretty good dude.
i only recently started to “get” the dead. growing up when and where i did, they were quite popular, but they didn’t have much to offer me. i liked weird noises, and the weird noises they made seemed psuedo-weird. i liked noodling and improvisation, but i preferred it in a jazz context rather than a string-based white hippy context. i liked a big musical communal event, but i liked it in the dark. you’d think there would be a lot of union in the venn diagram of nightclubbers/ravers and deadheads, but there just wasn’t. different vibes, man.
but about 10 years ago i heard the veneta 72 show and sort of marveled at the musianship, and the ESP. i’m not a fan per se, but i get it now.
Sad sad news of Clive passed suddenly last night… A good friend to all who skated young and old . The man who brought Tony Hawk and the Famous bones brigade tour to Dublin by convincing Powell Peralta that Yes we have a skatepark for you to do a demo at when the country had not a skate park lol RIP friend ![]()
Just saw on Insta that DJ Buck has passed.
RIP and thanks for one of the greatest West Coast tracks ever
So sad.
Also this did wonders for me on many an occasion. Sounds wonderful pitched down too.
Sad news.
This one was a go-to tune I reached for in many a tight spot. Fun vibes that always turned things round.
really sad - buck was one of the good ones. i’ll miss his energy.
Bollocks. Sly Dunbar

Ah man. That’s really sad
Whenever people ask about a period of musical history you’d love to have been there to witness, I always think about those Island Records sessions. RIP
I mean how many great records did he play on. And yes agreed - those Grace Jones records are the pinnacle of pop music for me. Beautiful sleeves, performances, mix, production just the whole thing. So good.
Seconded. Can’t even begin to list the hundreds of fantastic records he played on. Proper legend.

Ah man, that’s a tough one. I saw Sly and Robbie play a small outdoor event in Kingston once with Soljie on the mixing desk. Simply incredible. The riddims live on.
Testing my hazy memory here, Jo. Didn’t you or Matthew play ‘slave to the rhythm’ at one of the lowlifes? (or LL festie).
