I hadn’t realised that Nick Williams (Meda Fury/Phonica) had passed away this year. Always one of the politest and most helpful members of staff in Phonica and his label put out some fantastic stuff. Seemed like a proper gent. R.I.P.

Such sad news. The nicest guy to have ever worked behind a record shop counter.
Nick and Brian (Morrison) had such a profound impact on me in the humblest of ways when I’d just moved to London 15 years ago, coming into Phonica on weekly basis.
Nick’s kindness and openess, no doubt his patience too, was genuinely a huge reason I got into this whole thing. That’s something I’ve acknowledged for years now and this just incredibly sad news.
Didn’t know him beyond phonica counter, but nick was a really lovely guy to chat to a little bit when picking things up or just checking stuff out. I would always try to say hello if I was passing through. Very sad to read that phonica post.

I’d once taken a flight from Melbourne to Bangkok then a minibus to a wee island in Thailand. Was asleep - didn’t know where I was and when I woke up I was listening to the most beautiful Thai folk tune on the minibus radio. It properly blew my mind. Except when we stopped at the destination the driver handed the tape that was playing to my pal. Turns out it was a David Holmes mix and the track was Contact. But just for a moment I’d been transported somewhere else.
A great song, but she was a vile individual; a champion of the far right and married to the advisor of National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen.
Oh that’s very disappointing to learn.
I knew very little about her apart from a few old songs. Don’t think I’ve even seen any of her films.
