In Memoriam…

Oh dear. A brilliant, scene-stealing actor. Incredible in Generation Kill.

I remember hearing this in 1990 and being blown away.

RIP Ken.

Oh no. Chris Rea! :frowning:

Early Doors was an under apreciated gem of a sitcom. Felt exactly like the people who would inhabit a street corner boozer.

Damn, RIP.

Chris Rea wasn’t really played on the radio growing up in Seattle. I first became aware of his music and “Josephine” in particular travelling in Russia. The gaudy hotel I was staying at in Vladivostok doubled as a wedding venue and “Josephine” brought the house down. Only later did I learn its status as a balearic classic. Truly universal music.

He made On The Beach after a holiday in Formentera. Remember hearing it as a kid and thinking it was the most summery tune you could possibly make. Years later, I remember thinking it was the greatest record Sade never made

Oh man. So many great tracks - more than people give him credit for - and always came across as a great bloke in interviews. RIP.

A couple of lesser known / lesser appreciated tracks of his that I love:

Watched the live stream of Mani’s funeral earlier.
His coffin was the Roses first album cover art pretty much. Paint splatter and lemons…

Ian Brown and Bobby Gillespie both gave eulogies.

Bobby Gillespie stopped a couple of times to compose himself.

A scooter entourage.

Very sad. RIP Mani.

Really resonant memory of hearing this song as a 12 year old when it was released: loving it death whilst also feeling so sad every time I heard it. The power of Chris. Rest in peace and power.

Is it correct Balearic History that Josephine wasn’t an Alfredo track & Rampling heard it in a cab one night?
