Right, well that’s put me off them, cheers :joy:

Apologies! I’ve yet to meet anyone that enjoys those Woolworth-based munchie abominations.

New JBLs are sounding sweet - will be even better after 80-100 hours play time when they have “settled in”

what a beaut!

Thanks man - It is sounding pretty sweet!

I never thought ‘settling in’ was a real thing till I’d had my HPM’s for a couple of months and heard a sudden step up in grounding and depth - like they had moulded to the room somehow

Anything that is “high end” comes with strong/rigid, well made components that need to loosen and soften, hence the initial lack of depth and presence.

Been wanting to get back into vinyl for a while, so took the plunge and treated myself to a turntable for Christmas. Its not super hi spec and purists will balk at the internal speaker but its surprisingly decent sound, and it accepts external monitors which I’m planning to sort ASAP. Really looking forward to digging again

Ortofon Blue 2M or Ortofon Blue Concorde cartridge? Home listening not DJing.

My mate has one of Blue 2M on a fairly tired SL1500 or simliar. It has done a fine job of digitizing but his system is fairly meh beyond saying that is low noise as vinyl play back should be with good cartridge.

I’d be inclined to get whatever is cheaper including replacement styli, it’s probably going to a fine cartridge to dial in and enjoy for many years.

The concorde system limits adjustments to get the best out of it if azimuth or aligment is off, tonearm height adjustment can really improve the sound assuming you’re running a SL1200, that is still possible with the concorde of course.

Azimuth adjustments (twisting the cartridge body) are due to slight misalignments when the cantilever is glued in, its a bit random no matter how much you spend on a cartridge.

I’d go with the concorde because it’s less hassle.

I have had both and now I feel that I get more VFM from Audio Technica carts within that price range. But to be honest it all can just come down to getting the set up spot on.

HELP NEEDED

Audio Technica deck, I ordered a new stylus but you also have to get catrridge
Just changed stylus & was getting light feedback
Changed cartridge as well & sounds OK at first ( but not as clear as a CD) & then some feedback
Earth cable is OK

Any suggestions before I give in & get a new deck

Could it be one of wires between cart and the tonearm?

Is it a different cart to one you had before?

Also connection from four point pin on head shell to the tone arm ?

Im pretty certain & took cart off & put back again to check wires

Ill double check the spec of cart

Could it be a low output moving coil cart which needs to go into a phono stage - would explain lack of volume. @Ddiscof any thoughts?

This is quite a common issue and very easy to fix compared to everything else. Mounting a new cartridge is a pain in the ass, and sometimes all the work goes to heck because the tonearm pins are dirty or misaligned. Would suggest you check there first. Having a concorde cartridge handy can help. I use a cigarette filter to clean the pins, surprisingly efficient…
