Have you watched any online DJ sets?

I have hardly listened to any radio or other DJ’s mixes in recent years, but lockdown has really changed that.

I love Jazzy Jeff on a Saturday night - classics from many genres - and put together so impeccably. Great party vibes while I’m cooking my tea after watching football for the entire day.

I’ve loved checking out Rich Medina - live sets, podcast interviews with him, and his show called ‘Bangers’ where he plays and chats about a small selection of great records.

Caught my favourite DJ - J.Rocc - on Instagram live a few times. Always a treat.

Luke Una’s show seems very popular on this board, so no need to explain that.

Surprised no one’s mentioned DJ Koco. Been around for a long time, but has risen to greater prominence through insta. Fair to say he’s the most technically gifted DJ on the planet. Check out his needle drop, record swapping beat juggle last week for further proof. He’s got some great sets on YouTube.

I was blown away by Mr Thing’s scratching and all round turntablism when I saw this:

We’ve had a small number of artists coming through New Zealand recently, including Marcellus Pittman. Saw him DJ for six hours the other night and he also played this Boiler Room set the night after:

I will only watch when it’s underground DJs who focus explicitly on the music. So far the ones I’m most likely to watch are Kai Alcé and Tetrode streams. It’s fun to hang out doing something at home with it on and pop into the chat every now and then. Did a couple streams myself with some close friends including this past weekend which was really lovely. It’s good fun to hang with my fav ppl to talk about music and nonsense like I would when not dancing at a party.

Weird to see ppl so annoyed about streams though. Be annoyed at trash music or people who are doing it to be seen. But good ppl playing good music? Do you never listen to radio sets? Recorded mixes? How is this any different, just because there is a camera?

Seems really dumb to me.
