It’s always going to be a trade off between features and size, with not having a lot of space.
Been a while since I was in Logic Pro but really enjoyed it today. Got this work in progress, I think I’ll finish this one
(quick camera audio only, bass doesn’t come through)

New Korg portable turntable.
Taken over from the vestax handytraxx.
Mrs JC working. Didn’t really know what to do with myself so did this. Digitakt II wonky jam. Ran the entire mix through Benidub Spring Reverb Amp and Accutronic Reverb tank, and Benidub Digital Echo, which is something I wouldn’t normally do but it added a certain Sabres vibe.
Digitakt is frustrating and inspiring in equal measures. Putting these jams online is a form of aversion therapy you know?! ![]()

Just received today, a quick test of the wild, crazy Meris Enzo X synth pedal, a very short impression on six string bass, probably won’t leave my place all of this summer ![]()
That is wild! ![]()
Can’t decide if worth developing as a full track or leaving as just a jam?! It came together super quickly in Digitakt II, quite a few elements to play around with and add some other stuff to if I did take the stems into Ableton ![]()
Nice chugger vibes. I have about 1TB of jams, ideas, extended loops, Melodies, drum workouts, etc. About 80% are just rough live jams with overdubs. The other 20% ideas, melodies that pop into my head and then quickly recorded on guitar, piano or synths.
I get very quickly bored and leave them alone for months. Occasionally, I go back and re listen with fresh ears and edit, arrange and see if it has legs.
Working on a John Holt remix, but still can’t work continuously and go back to it after a break.
I have little interest in putting any of this online bar a couple of close friends. It’s all just something I need to do, for my own mental health, to have a creative outlet, with no intention or goal beyond itself.
Cheers. Definitely chug adjacent!
I get where you’re coming from. Finishing music is a huge issue for me. I did an EP of four tracks shortly before March 2024 and it was a pretty painful unenjoyable process, imposter syndrome, perfectionism syndrome, loopitis, intrusive thoughts… I had it all. And all for twenty people to listen/buy it on Bandcamp ![]()
I’m really trying to get past my negative headspace and part of that is this almost aversion therapy of forcing myself to put things in front of people. And so far someone not liking something or even just being indifferent to it has not killed me!
Ten years ago I was doing a track in a week consistently and didn’t GAF if anything happened to them after that, although I did send a few out ![]()
It’s a funny old game!
By some distance, the most enjoyable part, is just switching machines on and jamming, with zero intentions. Then adding overdubs of guitar, bass, percussion. Usually all done in an evening. Very therapeutic. Export all the tracks and fx and put it in a folder.
Going back to it after some time, it’s usually a case of stripping it back, getting rid of most of the plugins. Then it’s put away again. Possibly forever ![]()
I’ve been making stuff since early 90’s, never had the inclination to try and get it out there. As you say joy is the creating. Great outlet for the soul isn’t it. Made the mistake of taking my other hobby to the next level and regretted it ever since, sucked the joy out of it.
Would this be “John Holt - Ally Baba”? It sounds like a winner! Good luck and have fun!
JC - I really enjoy your YouTube posts. It’s nice stuff and looks like you’re having fun. Job done!
I’m in exactly the same boat. Gratifying to know I’m not rhe only one
Tune ‘ like it a lot
Thanks man ![]()
Thank you! ![]()
I’ve been wanting to do a version of Ali Baba in a kind of Black Box Recorder style complete with deadpan vocal (don’t ask me why, I just think it could work
).
I’ve been trying to learn how to play the bassline for ages too. It’s fing hard!
Police in Helicopter ![]()
It’s Police in Helicopter. Used some dub drum stuff I did a while back with acoustic samples and some drum machine parts, and then recorded the bass line. Added little bits of guitar, keys, etc. Have a good, clean aiff of the original vocal stem.
