I’m struggling to find a thread about the best greasy spoons in the UK, so I’ll start one off with this:
Does anyone have a recommendation in Nottingham?

Pretty much lived in Pellicci’s in early 90’s till about 2007, used to pop in after school run, Nev Snr was alive then, and perfect host. Went back few years ago and was full of tourist/influencers, great for them but ruined really.
Terry’s is still great if a little pricey, I think £22 for this little lot, great quality.
This was the worst breakfast I’ve ever had, poncy Farm shop here in Cornwall, £26. Friend asked if they had cooked the sausage on the radiator. Bleak.

I’ve been in there a couple of times but I used to go to Cafe 338 next door to avoid the tourists. It was always decent.
I used to go to the Wick Cafe in Hackney Wick but the pork content in their sausages is questionable.
My usual haunt now is the Number One Cafe in Hackney. I need to try a few more on that list though.

If so I can confirm that it does a lovely breakfast.
Chips with a fry up is London’s greatest achievement.

More physical distance between the baked beans and the eggs. I may want to mix them, but I want that to be my decision. Use a sausage as a breakwater…

Hockley Kitchen was really good but it’s gone, Yolk further down Goosegate is decent and Hungry Pumpkin as mentioned up thread.

Worked in Westminster for years and there used to be so many of them around. Best one used to be one of the cafes in the Houses of Parliament where all the coppers used to have a fry up. Ridiculously cheap and massive portions. It’s an information centre now.
These days there’s only really The Regency around Westminster, which I’ve not been to since it changed hands but was always great value and quality.
All the ones near St James Park tube slowly closed after New Scotland Yard relocated.
Marie’s in Waterloo still good and also great affordable Thai food

Marie’s a classic and was always full of taxi drivers which was a good sign.
I worked with someone who told me they used to order a full English with a bowl of massaman curry poured over the top.

Kennington Lane Cafe, Vauxhall gets my vote these days. Good ones becoming scarce. Anyone remember ‘The Oval Spoon’ in Crouch End? Fried Bread???

I had Lexx stay with me for a month or so a few years back in Catford. I took him to a greasy spoon on the hill. For a week after he would sniff himself and say ‘i can still smell it on me’. Swiss people don’t get greasy spoons.
