I think it’s the edit of edits, the uber edit, the Aristotelian ideal of edits.
Very good outer casual jacket wearer.
Nice one man, appreciate it.
I’d forgotten how banging it was!
Sza. What a load of absolute codswallop.

So bad, Sugababes would have been well better in this slot
Amazing, what a tune!

Sure. But James Murphy wins best jacket Glastonbury 24 for me
Only the French can pull off that level of pompous, grandiose tongue in cheek stadium rock/electronica and get away with it well.
Enjoyed Jalen Ngonda earlier.
Overall, having not seen anything of it for over 20 years it’s shockingly white middle class
He definitely is. A few years ago my friend was managing a band called Viola Beach and they died in a tragic accident in Sweden. They played one of their songs during their Glastonbury set and that caused enough of an interest to sell enough records to pay for their funerals and a memorial in their home town.
He’s made that look work for him, consistent if nothing else
Dark room eh? What a great idea. I’m presuming this is so you can discreetly focus on your listening experience.

Just woke up after getting out of Glastonbury late last night. Was loads of fun. Band wise there were some really touching moments. Paul Heaton’s ‘Caravan of Love’ was so sweet. Squeeze were great. Marina Abramovich was very powerful. She got the whole of the crowd in the pyramid field to stand and think for 7 minutes in silence. 7 minutes of no sound with thousands of people is a strong feeling. LCD Soundsystem were just so good. That’s a band that really know what they’re doing. Pretty impressive and all with a proper groove. I loved the The Streets (sorry). Loads of fun from the off and just a properly good time. Alexis from Hot Chip did a lovely mellow set with a harpist. That was sweet. Orbital were great. Even the Mel C bit and you can tell she was a proper old raver. Dj wise I pretty much stayed in the sun and avoided the dark rooms and “naughty corner” (copyright Dave Harvey but he meant Block9) but there was loads of good stuff everywhere. Alex Kassian (biased) smashed it. Skream and Benga were so much fun. Not sure there is anything like Glastonbury. Good times.
Just landed back from it too. First time and agree it’s just a snapshot you get from the TV coverage. In a mixed taste gang so bounced around a few different things, Friday main stage was lovely in the sun Heaton into Harvey into LCD covered all the bases really. Then rounding off the night with Luke and @Apiento both killed it despite the late crush for Tame Impala who was DJing after apparently.
Some of the best bits were just planting by a stage and seeing what cropped up Park had some indie from Bar Italia, then Japanese punk and more almost ambient stuff with Arooj Aftab. Then other extreme with (yes we did it) Coldplay Kiwanuka and Sims. For the former music leaves me pretty cold (ho ho) but they threw the kitchen sink at it. Night was nicely rounded out with some San Remo debauchery courtesy of Young Marco.
More mixed bag on the Sunday feeling a bit at this point as we’d been there since Wednesday for a mate’s birthday so Kim Gordon, Romy, James, Jalen Ngonda all made for a decent mix. My 12 year old told me SZA was must but a bit quiet so did some shouting with the National and that was us done. Few pics from me. Would I do it again? Yes totally get the criticism it’s expensive highly commercial in places but definitely an experience. Plus we saw Steve Macmnanan and Peter Crouch. Now time for bed…
Glastonbury 24 done…
Just under 53 miles walked
Shitshow at our accommodation ![]()
No beds for three of us till 4am on Saturday night / Sunday morning… loads of other folks with families in similar state.
When asked what to do one of the owners said get an air b&b!!!
people kicking off left right and centre - someone got nicked for lumping one of the owners.
Other than that a Good Time was had at the festival…
My only ‘tent pole’ acts were Squeeze, Crazy P and FK, so needed to be there Thursday night to catch squeeze at 12…
Sorted my entrance Thursday night and made it down to Block 9… The genosys stage was pounding out some killer house whilst I queued for NYC Downlow… bumped into a couple of old friends there and ended up staying longer than I expected.
No re-entry this year so actually my mission was a fools errand but had the craic anyway.
Due to a late arrival and travelling solo in darkness I properly lost my bearings and added an extra hour to my walk home - brutal… got a large blood blister on my heel.
Squeeze were faultless as you’d expect for a band that have been together for 50 years… very emotional for me and had ‘something in my eye’ for many of the songs. Tempted a highlight and a great arrangement and performance.
Sentimental? Moi? Unashamedly so ![]()
Wandered about a bit solo and made my way vaguely to Barry can’t swim which was HEAVING… could only get so close and heard the distant strains of an effective and energetic festival performance that sounded both familiarly old and new at the same time. Rave basically.
Paul Heaton was the housewives choice so we moved as a unit to pyramid. I can definitely take or leave it but he did a good turn (‘act as known’ in old contractual language) and the crowd enjoyed it. Norman cook on bass was a nice surprise.
Crazy P had a late start and were sadly plagued by sound issues - the stage next to them (the levels) was much louder and there was a fair bit of crossover audio. Shame.
More excess.
the lads wanted to see Dua Lipa which was a slick performance of polished pop. Not my jam, but I can appreciate ’the work’.
Interesting to note that certain songs don’t get played - the Barbie one notably. I’m thinking it’s a publishing thing… max out the return?

Saturday morning hangovers nursed by a full English, up and attem with the boys and over to NYC Downlow
FK played out of his skin… a set of deep underground house with some (as you’d expect) perfectly placed NYC disco and house classics but never going to the cheese.
C&C - pride of deeper love was a huge moment.
It was hammered to death BITD, and to have a good 10 years grace of not hearing it made it sound completely fresh and exciting to these ears… I surprised myself by knowing every word ![]()
C&C… masters of lengthy, epic, almost operatic and very musical pieces (double packs with multiple mixes of 10 mins long). Revisit Lovely day if you can be bothered to see all the changes.
But pride is really a ‘magnum opus’.
The Vega mix of Honey Dijon’s Downtown absolutely blew me away. A perfect dancefloor moment. Simple, subtle, hypnotic.
Sundry other bullets: mixmasters - in the mix a highlight, with a finish on a spectacular batucada track that I’d love to have Shazam’d in retrospect but was ‘in the moment’.
If I never know what it is then that’s no bad thing if that makes sense? When experienced in a club environment, house music is supposed to be transitory and mysterious.
Bumped into a good few faces in there which was great.
Out into daylight - caught the back end of the streets and hung around for disclosure who again, do a good turn.
One can’t help querying both their relevance… effectively the same act from their heyday without the guest stars.

Sunday - there was little to keep me there other than the Gypsy Kings by that point… earmarked a few DJ performances but couldn’t be arsed in the end… the chaps wanted footie (also not my jam) so a couple of hours were spent huddled round mobile screens waiting for the result.
Wandered up to the crows nest and got contemplative - possibly dangerous in my condition at that point - to the distant strains of Baxter Dury who needs a ‘thing’. Or a new album. Or to just go away. Probably the latter.
Visited some of the more classically Glastonburyesque parts - stone circle and the like - on our way to the Gypsy Kings, god bless them.
Amazing but incredibly similar sounding stuff, had a moment to Djobi Djoba and had to vacate the tent due to ‘it all coming on top’… three and a half days of excess and indulgence - need I say more.
Bottomed out, thankfully.
Passed by SZA to a hugely diminished crowd.

Thank you Glastonbury - another one for the books

I’m back in the land of the living after my first time @ Glastonbury…f*k me, what an absolutely epic place!
Tough start - Weds was brutal, 3am start, about 4 hours queuing and a good 90 mins crossing pretty much the entire site in the mid day sun…was burnt out by the time we’d setup camp.
However that all soon forgotten once the the fun started ![]()
Did NYC Lowdown for Francois K - epic set and reminded me of that NYC sound / style that I miss. Todd Terje’s Oh Joy sounded absolutely huge. Just a perfect 3 hours…as FK ended, the place suddenly got rammed. We thought it was going to be some kind of show. The next minute I realise that Cyndi Lauper is stood 2 feet away from me singing ‘Girls just want to have fun’ f*king surreal (and amazing).
Enjoyed the pyramid stage more than I expected. Seemed to be quite easy getting into the ‘inner circle’ near the stage and the sound up front was incredible. Did Paul Heaton > PJ Harvey > LCD > Dua Lipa (!!!) Wasn’t initially expecting to do Dua Lipa but was about 4 people from the barrier and smack bang in the middle…so took one for the family ! Just lots of joyous fun!
Caught Dixon on the thurs - he was on fire but San Remo was rammed, most cramped I felt all weekend.
Did Little Simz > Orbital > New Model Army on Sat and ended up at the Dave Beer disco thing…where as everything else I saw all weekend was pretty slick…this was anything but…not convinced Dave Beer had ever touched a mixer / decks before…but was all good fun. Ended up zoned into the drumming by the stone circles at 4am.
On Sun, main stuff was Jordan Rakei (spellbinding) and Justice (it may be a bit cheesy but being in the thick of that light show and sound system was overwhelming). Ended up doing some Roni Size at IICON which slammed (and has to be one of the most creative stage designs I’ve ever seen) and a last final hour with the DIY crew at Block 9.
Early start today to get out…and just absolutely shattered…but what a magical few days
