My local team is called Hearts of Pine and they have done a great job selling the team to the city of Portland. Probably too good of a job as what was initially $10 in and sit anywhere is suddenly only tickets on the resale market and $150 minimum a seat. They play in a stadium that holds 3000 and its sold out as they have season ticket holders who take up every seat. Can’t really grow a club if people can’t come and see the games. My wife’s company has a box (read that as a shed you can’t really see the pitch from) and she goes every week, well both weeks so far this year. She said the food was expensive ($20 a hot dog).
I don’t know, it seems wrong. Especially as the quality of football is pretty dire.
I used to go to most of their games in their early years. Definitely the least boring football match you’ll ever go to. Amazing atmosphere, their chants are second to none. Run the right way as well
Yeah, went to a couple of games last season, really enjoyed it, great fans, been meaning to get to some games this season but not managed it so far for one reason or another.
Not quite sure how it’ll go, mixed feelings about the PL, what it’s become and the potential to get steam rollered every other week. But for those that saw us play ‘home’ games at Northampton and Birmingham this is for them they deserve it.
I’m a Saints fan and can honestly say I hope we don’t go back up this season. We’re flying at the moment but really wish we stay in the championship it’s a much better league and way more competitive for all the teams involved. Last season in the prem we weren’t getting steam rollered every other week it was literally every week. Grim viewing for the fans. Good luck to Coventry though a wonderful season I hope they do well next season too. Mark robins did a wonderful job before frank lampard there too. Congratulations. Onwards and upwards.
Cheers, I like the Championship too. I’ll admit to being a massive sceptic re Lampard but more than happy to eat my words. Good that he paid tribute to Robins too, he dragged us up from the bottom of the pile.
Good day for us yesterday. We went 4 points clear at the top of Scottish League 1 with two games to go. If we win next week we’re champions and back in the Championship after a tumultuous few years of relegation, administration and two seasons of points deductions. Been to about 30 games this season and invest far too much time, money and emotional energy in the club but Saturday will hopefully be a cathartic day out in darkest Fife.
Went to the game yesterday, a local derby against Hyde United who are down at the other end of the table.
Fantastic turn out, nearly 3000 there, great atmosphere throughout with non stop singing, the game itself wasn’t great though, bit scrappy with few chances for either side, Le Fondre hit the post early on and a bit of a rally from FC near the end but not much other than that.
The game was decided by a mistake from the goalie, spilling the ball from a free kick and the Hyde striker following in to score. Play offs it is then.
Sad to see football focus getting the chop. Always recalls memories of nascent teenage Saturday mornings, wolfing down bacon sandwiches before jumping on the bus into town to buy records after it finished
