We were flying in the final last time round and he bottled it and sat back letting Italy in. Heās negative. These players love high tempo pressing football which they are mustard at doing at club level. None of which was on show today. Poor in every department. The substitutions looked like a desperate panicked attempt.

Of course the narrative that will come out of the camp is we are top of the group and through.
I like Southgate, he speaks well but serious questions need to be asked of what the plan is.

I heard Kyle Walker (admittedly straight after the game) saying that people expect them to steamroller sides. I genuinely donāt think thatās the case for most fans, what they do expect though is for them to pass to another player wearing the same shirt, not get caught in possession and pass the ball forwards more often than sideways or backwards. The sort of thing they do most weeks.

Italy Spain was good fun. this Spanish side play exciting football, Yamal is going to be huge and Nico Williams was brilliant but I dunno if they might lack a killer instinct against a better side. The most lightweight Italians I can remember had given up by half time and resorted to the classic azzurri dark arts, the sly body checks, the anguished looks at the ref, the constant disruption but for once it didnāt work
