I’ve just gone back and pulled up the ā€˜last tune’ thread as it’s getting to another year and thought some words were in order. Who’s been playing out this year, NYE or any year? No matter how small or big your dance floor will you have last tune story to add?

You can either buy the Mark Seven edit for a mouthwatering amount of money or just buy two copies of the live album and do the extended bits live for probably $5 each.

But this is the one I’ve been playing lately

I’ve just made an edit of what was a very long post. To summarise the Favourite end of the night record story can carry so many memories and emotion from the dance floor.

So excuse the sentimentality as I’m trying to convey how important our respective little scenes are to us all to inspire us all to keep the party going. I hope this story is as timeless as the music.

As alluded to in the ā€˜hauls found today’ thread, this hasn’t been a good year for me and others. All my friends, associates and contacts are in some way connected to the grass roots dance floor, our music gets us through. Over the last years, months and days we have opened up our souls whilst starring into the dark void. The mindset, talent and determination to keep the music turning can come at a price.

I was very lucky to meet H, who is quite literally the spirit of this little night (which has run for thirteen plus years?) She may have been the first person to listen and give me advice and offer some mental health support, over the last few days she has pulled me up enough to carry on.

In passing conversation and prior to this night she mentioned that this is her favourite record ever.

Cheers call out at the unmistakable intro and even applause. Teary hugs break out around our little dance floor. Thumbs up from those old hands at this. Another cheer and a wolf whistle from H when the percussion kicks in and the little family of dedicated dancers, friends and familiar faces have one last dance with the lights on as the clock nears to 2am.

Tears then, tears every time. The mighty Don Carlos with ā€˜Alone’.

For H x

I played this recently to close out a night and several people cried. Hopefully because they liked it? Digi only.

That’s ace. I used to play the Dizzy mix but that’s much better.

Pretty sure there’s a free download link on the Penelopes’ soundcloud too?

That’s a belter, worthy of a press.

I’m waiting for somebody to bring up another big teary edit of this year, come on.

I still go back and forth on whether this is cheese or gold, but I’ve closed a set or two with it. Sunshine re-did the instrumental for his last album, but for a split second he had this version, without the vocals, on his soundcloud and it was fantastic.

Rollover Milano edit too. :ok_hand:

Here’s another favourite out of my end of night connections. I’d time this one for sunset appropriate too.

Remember this one from Luke Una at Electric Elephant as the Argonauty pulled back into the harbour at Tisno and the captain misjudged the approach and we smashed into a pleasure craft as they were just settling down for the night. They were not happy
