I’ve seen a couple dj’s throw this on in disgust over the years after people’s bad behavior ended parties prematurely.

I saw the human league perform this live on the costa brava a few years ago. just as dreadful as I remembered it at ā€œ80sā€ nights. I also find it hard to square with Moroder’s earlier genius.

The biggest reactions I’ve ever gotten were for the following:

Alan Parker - That’s What Friends Are For

  • always loved the sentiments behind this. Smiles for miles.
Jerry Butler - Just Because I Really Love You
  • played this after the Dilla All Samples Cleared 12ā€ came out, and was my go to for a bit. Loved just messing around with it as well.
Nancy Wilson - I’m In Love
  • Perfect record.
Tim Maia - The Dance Is Over
  • another one that sends them off well, I think. A bit sobering as well.
The Brand New Heavies - I Don’t Know Why I Love You
  • stolen from Harvey/Weatherall at Trouw. What a moment.
Lord Echo - Thinking Of You
  • everyone knows it seemingly.
    All Saints - Pure Shores
  • this one is a bit niche. I played at a club around the time that this came out which was across the street from the beach and at 8am this was pure bliss.
    Brenda Fassie - Weekend Special
  • top tip, go to South Africa and play this absolutely anywhere. You’ll never get the roof back on.

And ones I really want to roll out:

Jessie Ware - Remember Where You Are
Sylvester - You Make Me Feel Mighty Real Epilogue
Arian - Your Love Makes Me A Winner

The Jacksons version of ā€˜I don’t know why I love you’ just kills me every time, to hear a little boy just pouring his heart out like it’s been broken a thousand times… chills

PS my dream set is to start with the Sylvester epilogue and end with the real thing… one day…

Possible thee ultimate end of nighter…? Though maybe a toss up between this and Inner Life…

Bill Withers - Lovely Day (Official Audio) - YouTube

Always had these at the back of the box as well…

Glad It’s All Over - YouTube

The Entertainer (The Sting/Soundtrack Version/Orchestra Version) - YouTube

And this has to be the most inappropriate last record, played after I’d refreshed about 20 minutes before the end. It seemed perfectly logical to me…talk about playing for yourself!
