Most of the Strut, BBE, Soul Jazz and going right back to the Charley comps were pivotal to a young me. But before that maybe Streetsounds and of course Mastersounds. In fact thinking back, comps were a decent chunk of my early listening world, especially the more night clubby stuff.

Came here to post the ambient dub series - so fucking good.

these were ace as well, and they’re still going all these years later with a recent vol.15

The Ambient Dub series on Beyond changed my life.

I particularly like Volume 3.

Also a big fan of the Select Cuts series on Blood & Fire remixes.

Tough to pick a favourite.

And, of course, the King Size Dub series on Echo Beach is strong, if a little inconsistent - but more hits than misses.

But, for the source of it all, On.U Sounds’ Pay It All Back series is unbeatable.

Indeed, both the Classic Jazz Funk and Classic Rare Groove series of double albums introduced me to a lot of music I’d never otherwise have heard at that particular time.

The Mimoid Strawberry track on vol 1 was a huge favourite.

Yeah, i never picked up the 4th one as it was released a couple of years later. Some good artist LPs on Beyond too- Higher Intelligence Agency, Electronic Eye, A.P.L. (can’t believe he only did one album/ one 12" which i picked up on the reissue A Positive Life - Synaesthetic | re:discovery records
Or the first Trance Europe Express one with the massive (196page) cd size booklet :sunglasses: Trance Europe Express² (1994, Vinyl) - Discogs
I suppose thats the art of a good comp- its a value jumping in/off point for great music

Took these of my brother who picked them up when he lived in tokyo. Put me onto some great tunes. Gutted not to go Yellow when I visited him.

I got quite a few of the Back to Mine series over the years.

Big love for the Talvin Singh & Orb ones of this series.

Yep! Feel like they started the whole ‘yeah but what else do you like?’ format

Yes! They’re both excellent.

I’m not embarassed to say I got into House music through a selection of Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound compilations from 2002-2005. A lot of those are cheesy, but there are some nice tunes. I especially liked that the Hed Kandi CDs were unmixed because that’s how I sort of learned to listen to intros and outros. Owe a lot to those.

Oh man Hed Kandi … the artwork was a bit cringe even then. I will own up to rinsing this one:

Speaking of artwork which may or may not have aged well … the Naked Music various comps - the sweeter side of deep house and jazzy downtempo

Loved the Naked CD’s. Such a great sound. They were the start and ending of many good nights 2000-ish
