Maybe people couldn’t stomach voting for a party that seems to go along with what Netanyahu’s government is doing?
It’s Labour’s weird side quest
According to Jess Phillips pro-gaza candidates/activists have been aggressively intimidating Labour people, slashing tyres etc. If what I read is correct I find that quite scary
Either that or the grim reaper is in the loo!
I agree. People obsessing about calls for a ceasefire is pointless gesture politics IMO. If calling for one would help bring about a cessation of hostilities, that would be a different matter, but it won’t. It might even be counterproductive given that both Israel and Hamas seem to be in perma trigger happy mood and more likely to entrench rather than see sense in the face of international condemnation.
Sunak had little leverage in this, and Starmer, as opposition leader, had none at all.
Political leaders should be focusing on limiting the blowback on this in UK politics and calming rather than inflaming community tensions.
The extent to which emotive single issues can be weaponised for personal ambition was played out in Rochdale by George Galloway and look where that went. Self aggrandising egotistical chancers are fine until shit actually needs to get done. And that’s going to be Farage’s downfall ultimately, as rather like Boris Johnson, he just wants to win he’s not actually interested in doing the job
Although Hunt stays on where i live, my hometown in the neighbouring constituency (formerly Micheal Gove’s patch) just binned off the Tories after 50 odd years and its now Lib Dem. So thats nice.
Scenes at Farages speech. Non stop.
I’d hope the media actually tires of his bullshit at some point. Four Reform MPs will be utterly irrelevant in a Parliament with a huge Labour majority. Outside TV studios they’ll have fuck all to do with their time.
Reform are regularly going to be caught up in various scandals and incompetencies. Farrage having to declare his various interests should be interesting, especially as his party is a limited company.
Concerning that the media are giving them so much air when the Greens got the same amount of seats and are largely disregarded
I think Farage just wants to use parlimentary privilege to bring up something toxic and designed to enrage his base.
That’s the peak of his ambition, to do the thing which is denied to most people.
He has that mischief for mischief’s sake vibe about him.
He’ll also be milking it as much as possible in terms of cash for access type situations
Cant see him actualy delivering as an MP though. Those people that voted for him are going to realise their lives are still shit in 4 years time.
Farage wants to be leader of a new strain of the Tory party. He will continue to stoke the right wing populist fires and spook the right wing Tories into merging with Reform. It’s the only way the Tories will feel they can win the next election after this trouncing.
I was tucked up in my bed last night, riddled with Covid, sweating one minute, shivering the next, a full body headache. Still, one of the best nights of my life
Pornhub or the election coverage?
This is/was the Steve Bannon/GOP game plan. I fear it will happen in UK politics, like French politics: rebranding the right wing to make Farage seem somehow palatable while taking Tories with them in order to chip away at the political Middle.
He’s the only reason Labour won. The racist white middle class have completely abandoned the tories. Tories will have to rebrand themselves as a rightwing party for the asian middle classes who obviously aren’t feeling the farage vibe.
