I was listening to the Spotify playlist generously made from the tunes on this thread and it got me wondering where the line dividing house and deep house lies for people, as many of the tracks posted are really just straight up house, and not particularly “deep”.

The original and way more helpful meaning of “deep” was any song that set the club off- it was deep house. If you listen to Farley‘s completely bonkers set during the BMX reunion my man is playing nothing but Eddie Kendricks album cut and first choice and the rest of the crew is screaming “he’s going deep deeper than deep that’s deep house.”
Again… “house is a feeling.” A lot of “deep house” the arbitrary-after the fact genre is plodding and soft with no sharp edges to offend the ‘purists’ an equal amount of it is brilliant but if someone thinks the bucketheads ain’t deep or aly-us or luv dancing isn’t deep then we aren’t dancing at the same club metaphorically or literally.

Earliest deep house record? Alot of stuff we listened to early 90s would be deep. But we just called it house, b side might be a deep mix… Never had to leave the dance floor back then only for a drink…

I feel like deep is as old as house. But in terms of being evocative of the sound people seem to think is “deep” it’s gotta be the first Fingers record or Jungle Wonz?
