Dancing With Mental Health (Over 40)

That’s near our house so it’s a regular haunt… Loads of good trails… not been to Runyon Canyon but it’s pretty near. Will check it!

Shouldn’t be too far from LA. Looks great.

When they said the middle of nowhere they meant it. Solid trek from LA but you go through Temecula valley so wine farms ahoy.

Up at 6am today after going to bed nice and early in order to start the work year off with vigour. Got myself a new productivity diary and a nice pen and spent an hour last night writing out some work goals and positive affirmations etc.

Got taken out for a coffee mid morning to be told my role no longer exists due to a board decision based on funding. Not what I was expecting at all.

Staying positive though. Still going to fill in my diary and keep a routine despite not having any immediate work to attend to. I can’t control the decisions of others but I can control how I choose to react.

Ah man, that’s a bummer! Good luck with finding something soon.

I’m a week into dry January having started early due to being ill. Hoping that it might carry on in to something more long term, my wife doesn’t drink so there’s no pressure there, just trying to break the habit of cracking a beer or two most nights as the calories and units really mount up. I’m on medication for high blood pressure which is probably mostly stress from work/having young kids (and if I’m honest my tendency to catastrophise) so keen to see if no alcohol makes any difference there.

Good luck pal. It was the best single choice I made in terms of general health and wellbeing. After some time of having no alcohol at all, I now do occasionally partake, but my whole relationship to alcohol has changed. A couple of glasses of good wine on special occasions is my limit.

Same here I’m on day 5 and I would usually have two or 3 pints in the pub after work and a few beers or glass of wine at home on the weekend. .At home doesn’t bother me but the pint after work is hard lol…

Best of luck Graeme. I can only echo what others have said on here. Best thing i ever did quitting alcohol completely on Boxing Day 2022 (after just planning on doing dry January). Over four stone down in weight, eating much more healthier, sleeping great and mentally in a much better place. I’ve replaced the after work beers with going swimming for an hour, which has been a massive help. Keep going buddy, it’ll be well worth it.

You’ll see some quite incredible results! Even catastrophes won’t seem as bad

I’ve already treated myself to a solo 4nt trip to Ibiza March 31 and it’s not even been a week…

Cheers mate. I’ll be ok. It’s a good excuse to get into hustle mode and start the year with something new and different.

Doing the same with sugary snacks and even after six days feel better for it (chocolate/sweets/cake replaced my 20 a day cigarette habit nearly 20 years ago).

Same. Chocolate and crisps have been knocked on the head, along with limiting myself to just one flat white per morning (I used to have 4 or 5).

After I’ve cracked all that I’ll probably join a monestry or something.

Sugar is so difficult especially if I go into the offude and there is so much around it’s almost obscene.

I’ve found it harder than cigarettes to kick it, it has been an ingrained part of my diet since childhood (my dad literally worked at a chocolate factory)

Managed to swerve soft drinks since Dec 29 which am pleased about, but not easy. Who am I kidding though… Exercise is the real biggie and I’m someone that only ever goes outdoors for a ‘reason’. My missus likes to go ‘for a walk’ and it bores me shitless (cue: domestic). No space for a dog here alas

Fizzy Pop is a hard one,My Mrs has them banned from the house since the kids were small and they both even now would rarely have one… I don’t drink coffee and with tea id always put milk and sugar in it, Cutting out bread is very hard and even harder in Spain I’d imagine…
