Daft Punk Splits!

Yo yo! Those parties were a lot of fun : ).

Blew my head off when I first saw that.

Yeah just watching that!

The idea of them ‘splitting’ sounds a bit weird and old-fashioned; like they’re a 70s rock band. Can’t they just not do anything together?

A good jaxx dj set was a thing of beauty… They played the kitchen in Dublin just before red alert came out and had one of the singers with them, that’s usually a no no for me but she was brilliant… Sang when doves cry over some track that sounded brilliant. And they played womac and womac…

Always loved this remix they did of Ian Pooley…“the sound of tomorrow, the music of today…”

Controversial maybe but I don’t think Homework is all its cracked up to be. A couple are decent. Discovery for me has a slightly better hit rate but only 4 tunes on that. The others I couldn’t tell you what’s on them and apart from Get Lucky I have no idea what’s on the last album

Style over substance for me

I really liked the Giorgio Moroder one. real builder

style over substance was the idea though, wasn’t it?

They played dance music like they were rock stars and made it seem like pop music. I think the Musique compilation is great but it’s all you would ever need of them.

They used to do a night at George IV in Brixton around 98’ish before the album came out which was amazing.

This was a big one!

Yeah that would be a good Friday night out :+1:

After much thought, the reason of split is greedy Thomas in my opinion.

Made me appreciate how versatile fire extinguishers can be :no_mouth:

Failed to see the point of that beatless version of Random Access Memories.

Amazed this is still available. Surely this cant be legal?

The opening credits to Enter The Void are pretty impressive. Best bit starts around 1:05.

Yep, thought it would be gone by now.

Just remembered a little Daft Punk story from yesteryear.
I was djing at a night we were putting on at the original Concorde in Brighton. It must’ve been 1997. Daft Punk were at the Escape club over the road and being an early adopter of Da Funk I was determined to at least go and have a look.
I ran over from our night into a very packed Escape club and weaved my way through to the decks. I bumped into a few faces along the way and explained why I wasn’t stopping. I then had to turn round and head back out, pushing my way through I came face to face with an old skater mate from when we were kids in Eastbourne, Dan Peppe. Beaming, I said hello only to realise at the last second that it wasn’t him. “Sorry mate, I thought you were someone else”, the chap looked a bit confused and we carried on.
It was only a few steps later that the penny dropped and i realised it was Thomas Bangalter. No wonder he looked confused :joy:
Anyway, a quick google finds a much older pic of Dan, who went on to play bass in Agent Provacateur and other bands but perhaps was best known for his mugshot turning up in the news of the world after a dalliance with Zoe Ball.
I promise, he did have bleached blond hair and looked a bit similar to Mr Bangalter.

Not Thomas Bangalter
