ā€œRaise Your Hands If You Understand (Ambient House & E Musik from the early Rave era)"

Any funds raised will be donated to Glasgow North West Foodbank.

Originally released on tape on June 18th 2021. This was the 5th in a series of ten tapes.

At the start of the 1990s as the Rave scene exploded it was such a new thing for so many people that they often didn’t know what the music was, nor did they have the vocabulary to describe it. I was DJing every Friday night at Pure in Edinburgh and frequently had people come up and ask me to play some of that ā€œE musicā€ I always played. It took me a while to figure out what they were asking for and then I realised exactly what it was; it was a sound I played a lot as a counterpoint to the frenetic and hardcore sounds of the day. It was atmospheric, often tripped out and hypnotic, synth heavy, full of emotion, and yes, sometimes ecstatic. ā€œE Musikā€ became MY genre and complements the new age, Utopian, proto trance, Ambient House sound, which was an actual thing at the time.

Many of the records these tracks are from were played so often in very intense and extreme club conditions that they are in less than pristine condition, so please forgive some of the less than perfect audio here (I actually spent many hours editing out a lot of the worst scratches). As the record says, ā€œCome together in peace & harmonyā€

I’ve been experimenting with how to make the series of mixes, that originally came out on tape in 2021, available. They have been so well received and have raised over Ā£2000 for the food bank, so I thought I’d try making a few more / pay what you want releases. Any money raised will be donated to Glasgow North West Foodbank who I have a long standing relationship with. Thanks!

Not quite NYP, but 1 Euro a pop for each release.

Luscious ambient soundscapes and delicious dubbed out techno bliss. Quality.

Thanks to Swiss Adam over at Bagging Area really. I don’t know how he manages to produce such an excellent blog every day. Always thoughtful and just about all of the music he writes about is spot on. Often feels like he has my record collection, but with just enough hidden extras to keep it interesting.

Inspired by Howler playing Henry’s remix / edit of Fascinating Rhythm on his latest radio show, I went in search of some of the edits that I lost on a hard drive that died.

Surprisingly, they are 12 years old but still available for DL on his Soundcloud page. There’s some crackers on there:
