Best of 2023

this has many tunes mentioned here, just listened, great flow.

Forgot to add this, majestic.
Listening to it on headphones whilst out and about can make the most mundane, everyday activity sound like you’re starring in a Morricone soundtracked widescreen epic for a few minutes.

Not much to write home about this year for me.

Larry June + The Alchemist, “The Great Escape”, a really good album.

Enjoyed The Chemical Brothers new record.

Paris-Hawaï by La Femme is really good. Nice modern exotica with good production, from a 60’s inspired group.

Jenny Lewis’ Joy’all was rock solid, marred slightly by releasing the strongest songs right out front en masse, but still very good soft rock/alternative.

Boys Like Girls, Sunday At Foxwoods, near immaculate pop rock album from one of the best pop singer/songwriters in the business, Martin Johnson. He won me over some years back with his 80’s inspired project Night Game, then this year returned to his first band (in name only to be frank), and released a stellar pop record. Hook driven writing, unbelievable production, spotless.

Shame on me but I don’t think I followed much of anyone’s independent work. Anything I heard, I probably heard here or on Bandcamp. Surfing and Drab Majesty might count, they’ve done some interesting things this year.

Reads like a radio show you’d love to hear.

Not sure if due to outrage due to twitter outbursts but Hit Parade is in any hardly EOY charts . Koze production is off the scale

I love the Findlay Brown/Stallions remix. I thought that came out years ago though?!

Yes but was on one of the Warm comps this year. I played it on one of my radio shows, it was the track that was on Bandcamp pre-release for the comp coming later. Thought Bill wasn’t allowing re releases? He’s softening!
