I’ve got an E.P. out today on a local net label. It’s been a while since I put anything out, I’ve been jamming with the modular/hardware set up and doing that live in a duo for a couple of years so have not really found the time to record anything.

These tracks all started off life in the hardware/modular realm. See what you think! Cheers

Something I’ve done with a talented friend, which turned out to be a tribute to Andrew Weatherall. We released it a couple of weeks ago, around the 4th anniversary of his untimely passing

The track builds on a 2 bar sample lifted from Weather Report’s River People, hence the name.

I warn you, this is trance(ish) :space_invader:

This track happened spontaneously, during two sessions in the last two nights.

Here’s my new single, with Sam Wilkes on the bass, and Andy Shauf on the drums!

The closest I’ve gotten to the balearic sound.

Here’s a lovely write up on Ban Ban Ton Ton to get a feel for the release

Please support if you’re into it and you can, a little support goes a long way

Hi all
So I’ve never shared anything outside my close circle of friends so here we go…
My mate and I get together every week to muck about - he’s a drummer and I’m a synth-botherer.
We enjoy the jamming and recording process but I find the mixing process quite hard.
All you lot who are actually releasing music, do you mix it yourselves or is it quite normal to pay someone else to mix your tracks (at this level, I mean - obviously the big boys get a pro to mix their tracks, for sure).

Here’s an example of our stuff, which was my best attempt at a “decent” mix:

Liking the track! The bassline is really nice and so are the drums. It sounds well recorded too - one of the first things they tell you in music production classes is getting a good recording goes a long way to a getting a good mix.

I think a lot of people mix themselves these days, its not as daunting as you’d think. A lot of it is down to taste rather than an exact science. Have a look at some YouTube tutorials and trust your ears, the music content & recording is good so I’m sure you’d pick up the mixing side without too much issue. However it is common for people to get someone else to master the track.

Thanks for the kind words, they really mean a lot to me!

I am aware that mastering is outsourced more often - I was just wondering how often people from this site who release music also outsource the mixing?

I’ve been watching tutorials and reading about the mixing process for a few years now and I still find the mixing process incredibly daunting. I think I have a good ear and I can definitely tell when I hear a track that has been mixed really well - I just struggle to achieve that sound (big/open/dynamic) in my own productions which I find very frustrating!

I’ve got a brilliant mix/mastering advice PDF from Conor Dalton, I went on a mix/mastering course with him. Very useful. I can DM you with it if you like
