I am just chatting to Piers on whatsapp and somehow trance came up which sort of reminded me that around 1994 this stuff just sort of flowed into the prog thing and it all sat quite happily for a short period together before the banging techno took over… Sort spot ahoy though for things like this below and the United Frequencies of Trance series…
But (and I know we are currently having a conversation on WhatsApp too) this is actually a great record… Not sure I’d put it under “trance”, More west coast vibes alongside Exist Dance etc…
I hunted theYAP album forever after daydream was the opening track on a digweed essential mix in 1995, wrote to mixmag trainspotting and had my letter published in my search. Finally got a copy of the CD on eBay in 2001, still listen to it now.
had to find this specific version of the video because the description is too good enough not to post.
"When this track was released in 1993, and in the context that this CD album is identified as “Music For (NY) Stock Exchange”, I’m sure that the German artists had no idea that the title of this track might be relevant to the 2020 U.S.A. presidential election.
Please don’t take your political view into account when judging this track.
Smooth and nice synth-driven and piano-influenced 1993 fusion of German house, trance, and techno music, with pleasant synth play, hypnotic “atmospheric” pads, complimentary piano play, and easy-going sound. This track can be found on German-produced CD album “Ethik – Music For Stock Exchange.” (Cat.# EAT002)"
True, Bob, true, but also Trance in its late 90s excesses is the ultimate Donald Trump music.
My mate Dean who did Sabresonic with Weatherall ran Harthouse / Eye Q office in the UK for a long while when they were signing indy bands etc too… This was a favourite… Still sounds totally brilliant…
I think it’s the first virtual symmetry on Eye Q that sounds like detroit meets electro meets embrionic trance. Not something pursued, of course. Lemme find it
In general I think harthouse dated better, less of Papa sven’s soppy romantic tendancies and more stratospheric freaked out analog jams. Of course not on the level of dr walker/air liquide (which in my estimation is the true continuation of the spirit of heavy psych) but then what was? Although Sven’s romanticism can be endearing, in the right moment.
Rumour has it that Bukem played Adventures of Dama in '93 and Lazor Worshippers on eXperimental. No documentary evidence to substantiate it, but I can def believe it. Heard double O from rupture say it on an oldskool distant planet stream during coronavirus.
I basically went through my whole collection today in preparation for a gig this weekend. My first in over 2 years.
It was like looking back in time
I actually had Jam and Spoon’s Odyssey to Anyoona on this afternoon followed by Scope Bachannal (transient mix). Others that caught my eye were the Age of Chance Timeless mix, Age of Love Stella, Rabbit in the Moon etc.
I also found some newer stuff that’s made to sound like 90,s like the Kassian remix of Slack on LOTR and a tune on Magic Wire by Bliss Inc.
Whether i’ll have the nerve to play them on a bank holiday sunday afternoon is another matter.
Still i’ve been putting records on since 10 o’clock this morning and it felt great!
