Call me a sentimental old c u next Tuesday but this cover always touches a raw nerve. The original is of course one of the saddest songs ever committed to music but this hits the spot for me every single time

Thanks to Don Letts and his Version Excursion Late Night Tales with a version by Gentleman’s Dub Club for reminding me of this great Bill Withers’ song. The Isaac Hayes cut is about the nastiest take of the several I’ve found and may be found on the first of the Living In The Streets compilations.
BTW, Version Excursion is chockfull of dynamite dub cover versions of some damn fine tunes. Highly recommended and, IMHO, by far the best and most engaging of the several Don Letts’ compilations around.
