Women Smashing It Right Now

I think people really don’t talk about Ash Lauryn enough. Solid producer but as a DJ, she’s been my definitive go-to for quality, soulful House music for the past few years.

Loads of young female DJs smashing it right now. Some of my favourities (all London based I think)

Kiara Scuro
Tia Cousins
Shy One
Sarahtonin
Donna Leake

All have really interesting selections over a wide range of genres…

Agreed, for me one of the best house DJs around at the moment

got this playing now. really good

Still remember her gig with the excellent Khidja in London years ago. Outstanding. Sadly not recorded

Ogazón - supreme taste and class. This is how you do it - no posturing or bs, just well mixed selections and a smile.

I know we’re a forum of men but there’s something wrong with this thread. What about we kill it and make sure we’re sharing and giving props and keeping things equal in relative threads…

Fair enough. I started this thread to shine a light on female artists that deserve a shout out but it you think they’d be better served in the regular threads go for it

would be cool to get more female posters involved. What puts women off joining in? Have any of your partners ever expressed an opinion on this? My gf was tempted to sign up but shyness won out

Oh it’d be so great if it was more mixed but you know - we have such a nice place whatever works really.

And @joe - no shade at all as it’s a lovely and good idea as it needs highlighting. for some reason it just feels more equal to treat everyone the same and just getting on with it (if that makes sense).

Before voting I mentally swapped ‘women’ for ‘black/gay people’ and it seemed obvious that the thread was a wrong’un. But then I asked my wife who lectures feminist theory within a music business context at degree level - from her perspective a thread like this is a good thing!

She says that positive discrimination or how much it is used is always dependant on the context/environment - if this board was populated by more women, or younger users who are naturally more used to female djs & producers then she’s be against it, but it probably isn’t (who knows about the lurkers!) so a place to highlight high achieving women is a good thing.

Personally, as an ancient white male who knows very little about the dance music culture of the younger generation, I’ve had my ears opened to lots of good stuff from this thread that I’d propbably not be exposed to otherwise.

Go and change your vote Tim!

I mean for me one of the key foundations of this place is equality. If other people - gender / race / whatever - want to join then we know as a small community that we are making sure we’re doing as much re that as possible.

OK I will concede but I want to see all of you giving props to the girls across the forum 'cos I wasnt seeing it and that’s why I created the thread
