Why Does It Exist? A Home For Those Weird Anomaly Records

Kicking of with this classic of the ‘what on earth happened in the studio that day’ genre we have ‘Was Dog A Doughnut’. I don’t know enough (or much at all) about Chick Corea bar a few tracks… He was clearly a spacey dude…

Cat Stevens is pretty good with a break saying that… From 6:16 on in this one gets really good…

Tom Jones being responsible (or at least partially responsible) for a chunky breakbeat was a surprise to me

What makes it even weirder is that it’s a song about a dog made by a cat.

I’d love to have been in the studio for this min and a half banger! 1958!

First time hearing ‘Going Up’ by Coil at an Optimo after party (99% certain it was Keith that put it on) at some random flat in the west end. It was a constant feeling of what the actual fuck is this, who came up with this madness, and feeling like it was the best piece of music I’ve ever heard in my life.
My obsession with Coil had begun. And it is (probably) my favourite piece of music ever made. Sublime and transcendental, yet is based on ‘Are you Being Served’. A slice of genius from a one off band.

And if I could go back in time to see any band at any point, it would be Coil circa 2004 and here it live.

The Title track of the self funded 1974 concept album “Touchy” by Luie Luie. The aim of the record was to get listeners into a “touchy mood”. Luie played all of the instruments on the album, including trumpet, guitar, drums, and Moog. It sold 25 copies upon it’s release.

The Residents, jumping on the megamix bandwagon craze in the early 80s with Diskomo, based on the Eskimo album, with sticker “DISCO will never die!”

It’s the birth of Psychobilly 25 years early…

Isn’t that a sample of Are You Being Served right at the start? Nuts.

Looking at his lustrous hair and moustache I think he could get anyone in a touchy-feely mood

Yeah, it was all based on Are you being served. The sublime, almost operatic vocals are all about the levels of a shopping mall - Which I fucking love! It’s what I want played as I’m either buried in a mushroom suit (psilocybin spores up my arse), or fired straight into the heart of the fiery, scolding star that is our Sun. Either way, Going Up is the soundtrack. The mushroom suit being the more likely, but still pricey option. Sun City Girls cover of Come Maddalena also on the short playlist, along with Bella Ciao and Wayne Smith’s Time is a Moment in Space.
